Oh dear. Attendance at Plainmoor on 2/11/83: 1,542. There must have been something particularly exciting on telly or at the pictures that day.
I know the Spireites were not the most charismatic opponents and there is much else to do in Torquay on a Tuesday night but honestly, eighties Gulls, where were you all?
Do any TFF contributors have a note from your parents to explain your absence? Or were you one of the hardy 1,542 there to witness what was probably, to be fair, a pretty tedious 1-1 draw?

The mid 80s were the absolute low point for our club and we averaged less than 2000 from this year until 1987 with a position in the table to match! I was going to say much the same. There weren't many of us in those days and, because of geography, I was an absentee myself. And, to be honest, we still come pretty close to at least one sub-2,000 crowd each season. We've had several since rejoining the Football League even though it has been a good time for the club. |
