So what makes any company want to sponsor a football team? well It could be the hope that the company will get bigger exposure and therefore Increase Its business. That would be true for national companies, but I do not think some local company trading In Torbay, would get too much extra Business, because Its name was On a football shirt, seen In a ground up north.
I guess the main reason maybe down to tax, not sure how It works, but I guess what you give In sponsorship, you would not give to the tax man, sure someone could give us details etc.
So what should the relationship be, between a football club and Its sponsors? well the sponsor would get his companies name On the team shirt and should enjoy the hospitality Of the club on match days etc. In my view that should be the full extent Of any sponsors Involvement with the club It Is sponsoring.
Should the club want to do any other business, or buy from its sponsor, then It should be only On an Official basis and the sponsor could also benefit, from any news given out by the club. So If we still had Sparkworld and they fitted out the kitchens with new gear, then It could use that In sales Imformation etc.
I do not think the club should make any sponsor an associate director, how would that help the club? maybe with all the best good will In the world, the club got to close and too Involved with some sponsors In the past and may feel It needs to look at this, to ensure any future sponsor deals, runs Its full coarse.
I would expect too see a new shirt sponsor for next season, as the deal now, was only for one year, I think finding sponsors even for the shirt, will not be easy, as many companies are struggling just to keep their heads above water.
