Buckland Athletic started life in the Western league at step5 on Saturday, They were matched against Bristol manor farm, but we knew little about the team from the South of Bristol. The journey up the m5 was quite eventful with lage amounts of holiday traffic on the road. The Team arrived at 2.50 and a lot of the supporters who wanted to witness the 1st game got there after the kick off at 3.05.
The first half was fairly even as both teams looked to get an advantage on each other. Simon Revell will go down in the history books of BAFC To score the first goal for the yellows in the new league, a low shot that went just inside the post.Th is sent the visiting supporters crazy, who had made up half the attendance of 76
The match official brought an end to the half and a welcomed pint, was needed.
Buckland started the second half pushing forward but could not get a second goal, but on the hour mark Simon got his 2nd goal when the keeper parried the ball out to him and he blasted the ball into the net.
Maor farm new they had to pull a goal back quickly to have any chance, and this came when a good run from the forward beat Kenny with a well placed shot 1-2. the team from Bristol then had their best spell of the game, and put us under a lot of pressure, but we held out.
As time was running out substitute Chris Wright made sure the points were heading back into Devon scoring in the 91st minute. Seconds later the referee brought an end to the game and the celebratios started.
All in all a very succesful start to the next chapter of Bucklands history.
Next Saturday Buckland start their mission in the FA CUP with a home fixture against Bridport town 3.00 at Homers Heath.Torquay fans will always be made most welcomed at the heath.

I heard about the result soon after the end of the game! Excellent start for the club and im sure they will do quite well as clubs wont know too much about them. The cup game on saturday gives them a chance to earn some good money at that level but unfortunately im working so cannot get along. They have two midweek home games against Barnstaple and Ilfracombe soon so hope to get to one of them. Good luck Bucks!!
