The second of three consecutive trips on the road takes us up to our old BSP rivals Burton whose confidence must be as low as ours is high. With no wins in 14 and their last point coming six games ago at home to Rotherham, coupled with failing to score since, (although Cheltenham, Swindon, Southend, Port Vale and Shrewsbury are no cake walk) has manager Pesch admitting his team are low on confidence and seen him close to losing his job! Losing by a single goal at Shrewsbury is some sort of improvement although I don't think they were much of goal threat which won't see Olejnik losing too much sleep this week! ;D Burton do have a decent strike force in Zola and Justin Richards but an injured Kee has been a big blow to them. particularly after he was on fire during the Autumn. It seems a long time since we had to come back from behind to draw 2-2 on the opening day of the season against what is a basically good side but looking at form we must be favourites but then would also have been against Gillingham and Bradford!  Although we are second in the table, a poor result here could see us slip behind the three teams just behind us and it is very important to keep the momentum going leading up to that very tricky fixture at Swindon the following Tuesday! Hopefully, the various injuries will have cleared up allowing us to name a full strength team to do the business.... |

18.08.2009 Burton Albion 0-2 Torquay United
They are really on a downer at the moment with nothing to play for (and thankfully Kee won't be making the starting line-up), so there should be nothing stopping us make it P3 W2 D1 L0
Another 3 points in the bag (and a defeat for Swindon at Gresty Road) would certainly make next Tuesday's game all that more exciting!
Exciting! This is Torquay United... surely we don't do 'exciting'!!!

Got the afternoon off today and just quick simmed the fixture on FIFA12. Result 0-1 away win. Seems about right.  |

Isnt it great to be talking of Promotion. This is really exciting times for Torquay. As for the match Banana skin yes, but under Buckle I believe it would be, but Ling will have them focussed and playing players in the right position. So he goes 3-1 Torquay.

He could well be right we may be tired, two games in a week is a tough call for a small squad. As we saw with Danny and Nico, who both looked like they had nasty injuries both were eager to get back in the mix asap which is an encouraging sign and credit must go to physio Damien and his team for there excellent work. I think its great for manager to set out to man mark Eunan which I think would be a pretty impossible task in any case as it will give others more space to do there work. If he thinks we are a one man team then he is taking a chance and desperatly clutching at straws to stop his teams slide. Still think it will be tough to get result as they will be desperate to get something from the game and it was only at Xmas they were looking good for a play off place and and we were mid table. The players will be looking at the finishing line now and will know in the back of their minds that another five wins from the last ten matches is likely to secure a place in league one. The beauty of our position is we still have little pressure on us unlike Southend, Crawley etc who's fans now expect nothing less than automayic promotion while we would regard it as a massive bonus. No doubt we will be going for it full pelt again tomorrow. |

Danny, Damon and Nico are all carrying injuries but should be fit for this one. This congested month is starting to take its toll!

To comment that 2 long journeys will make our players tired to me is a little puzzling. I mean they are sat on a coach, to me that is not tiring, and for the likes of nico, stevens, lathrope its added rest surely. I do agree it is mentally tiring having to be on long journeys but surely not physical! Plus they are now asleep in a hotel presumably somewhere near Derby/Stoke. As for the match, its in our hands so lets get behind the lads and celebrate 3 points come 4.54pm

I think it is very important to stay in a hotel the night before as muscles can get cramped over long journeys and sometimes these matches are decided on very small margins. Nico turned this situation on its head during the recent legend's night saying that as a team we are used to the long journeys whereas other teams are not which can give us a home advantage!
Looking at our respective home and away forms, they are very similar and if we win at Burton and Swindon then we will have an equal points total with the same number of games played!
With those three players carrying knocks, Ling may decide to rest one or two, particularly with the Swindon game only three days away but also you could potentially use all your subs on injuries as these knocks are aggravated! If anyone is rested then I think it is most likely to be Danny as I don't think he is back to his best yet (understandably) and Jarvis has been praised by Ling this week and may be ready for his second start.

After all those 1-0 wins we are due to give somebody a right tanking, and today could well be the day. It would be great to give our goal difference a boost and set us up nicely for another 3 points at Swindon on Tuesday evening.
It could well be a good time to play Swindon as psychologically their players will have half a mind on their White Emulsion Paint Pot Final at Wembley the following weekend, and they will all certainly want to avoid injury.
Wins in our next 4 games, none of them impossible, would see us top of the table irrespective of how other results go (albeit maybe only temporarily as our game at Barnet is a Friday evening kick off so it could all change again the following afternoon).
We are already just about nailed on for a play off place even if our form dipped and we drew a few in the run in, but how good it would be to run out at Plainmoor for our first home League 1 game of the season with a packed new Bristow's Bench as League 2 champions. ;D

lots of twists and turns can happen in about 10 games to go,and fortune bad or good can alter things accordingly,but i now dont care how we play as long as we rack the points up to get us hopefully promoted.It would not be beyond us to slip up today and go and win at swindon tuesday,we are a consistently tough nut to crack though thus far,long may it continue
