After a hectic Christmas schedule, which we came through unscathed, we have a slight lull due to Dagenham playing a third round FA Cup match this Saturday. However, the postponed Devon Bowl match has been rescheduled to next Tuesday evening and although I can't see the first XI starting with an away match at Macclesfield on the following Saturday, the timing is good for several players.
With Aldred, returning to Colchester, it is essential that Saah now gets up to speed and with this and another reserve match the following week, should be ample to achieve this if he needs to be called upon. Another defender fighting for a new contract is Ed Palmer and if back from Truro, will be the first opportunity for him to impress. Halpin and Yeoman, also products from our youth scheme will be looking for some good competitive match practice.
Another returning loan player is Macklin from Salisbury although I have heard nothing as to how he has fared but on a good day can cause havoc with his pace. Howe has a four match first team ban but I don't think it includes this competition and maybe this will be a good opportunity for him to gain some match fitness as he won't be playing the following Saturday. Finally, those players not getting a start, Rice, McPhee, LRT, Leadbitter will have a chance together with the odd youth teamer.
Anyone going to this one?

Of course, I didn't mention Ray Spear who has just returned from Bideford in the above line up but unfortunately he is cup tied now anyway. The Herald confirm that Howe is not eligible to play in this tie but that it will be a strong reserve line up with probably just a couple of youth teamers starting. For anyone thinking of going, the line up will probably be something like: Rice Leadbitter Saah Palmer LRT Macklin McPhee ? Halpin Yeoman ? It would be nice to hear a few thoughts on how the lads got on.

A pity really as would have been a useful game for some. May well make the trip to Buckland!

When I got to the ground Barty told me the game was in doubt because of the boggy pitch.
It was very wet and very bobbly but definitely playable.
Lingy didn't fancy it, hence the late to decision to leave out Saah, Rowe Turner and McPhee with Washburn and Quinn coming in to the back four, Latimer in as target man and Yeoman dropping back into McPhee's attacking midfield role. The only sub used was Thompson for Macklin.
The pitch made a scrappy game inevitable. We edged it and looked to have won with a well taken goal - Kudi battling to win the ball and feed Leadbitter who put in an excellent cross for Latimer to head home. Stemp, who Barty tells me Truro once paid Exeter £10,000 for, scored an excellent late equaliser.
The penalty shootout went on for ever - after sixteen kicks Willand's manager shouted out "Can't we just toss a coin?"
A less convincing performance than my last visit to Willand - but a chance to reflect how far we have come as a club in five years. Shame Chris McPhee was denied the chance to repeat his 2006 heroics.
Tufc01 promises that we can look forward to a far better playing surface for our quarter-final at Buckland.
