This is our last home game before Christmas and is on a Friday night against a resurgent Barnet side recovering from yet another poor start to the side. In fact after 4 wins and a draw in November, Lawrie Sanchez is amongst the nominations for manager of the month (Ling must have just missed out on this!) and only a defeat against MK Dons in the FA Cup ended this run.
Barnet are also playing in the JPT tonight and at the time of writing, there was no score in their home game against Brentford with just minutes left! (Edit - they have won 5-3 on penalties!)Whether three games in six days and a long trip down to the Westcountry will have any bearing on their performance is anyone's guess.
Sanchez has turned his team's fortunes around with an influx of new blood mainly in the form of loan signings. In central defence he has brought in Michael Hector from Reading and Jack Saville from Southampton. Paul Downing from West Brom, Gary Borrowdale from QPR and Cedric Baseya also from Reading are the significant others likely to feature. Familiar faces are Danny Senda at right back and Sam Cox although the latter is unlikely to feature. Danger man is definitely, Izale McLeod, the division's top scorer. Although he had to overcome a late fitness test to face Brentford tonight, he has spent most of his career in the division above, making his name for MK Dons, around the time we were last in that division before joining Charlton for a very sizable fee but unfortunately, never hit it off with injuries plaguing him for much of his time there!
Despite a narrow defeat against a top league 1 side, I think our team will be brimming with confidence as it sounds like we could have won on another day and our record in November has been similarly good! The midfield trio of Lathrope, Mansell and O'Kane are likely to be reunited for the first time in three matches (with Morris possibly strengthening the bench) and hopefully this will be the catalyst for adding to three successive home wins after only managing one previously this season! I suspect that Saah is not too far off to regaining fitness and despite an unfortunate mistake, will be another opportunity for Ellis to continue with his good form.
