After a good few years in this competition, greatly aided by a plethora of home ties, we have been drawn away for the third time in cup competitions this season. Starting off, away against higher league opposition is going to be very tough and all of our recent wins against Blackpool and a number of League 1 teams have been at Plainmoor.
The good news is that prior to winning at home to Tranmere in the JPT on Wednesday night, Chesterfield had lost four and drawn two of their six previous games and indeed have just accrued thirteen points from seventeen league games. However, whether the JPT win would have given them renewed confidence or knackered out half of their team for Saturday remains to be seen.
Chesterfield have just strengthened their side with the loan signing of Obadeyi from Bolton, making his debut on Wednesday.Their team has changed just as much as ours since that Plainmoor night in April when we got the point that turned out to be enough to get us into the play offs! One of their stand out players from then, Danny Whitaker has only been coming on as a substitute but does have four goals to his name. Clarke is their top scorer with eight followed by Bowery and Westcarr on five, both of whom scored against Tranmere. In fact Jordan Bowery has hit two goals in the last two games so appears to be on a good run of form!
As we all know, Torquay have just hit form at the right time and without those clean sheets I would have gone into this with some trepidation. I can't see Ling changing things for this match apart from that enforced by Bodin going off on international duty. Looking at the reserve game, Macklin seemed to be the stand out player in that match and would naturally slot into that forward right wing position. The other option would be to switch Danny back to the right wing and start Morris on the left against his old side. Personally, I wouldn't like to see any other change although McPhee has played quite a few matches on the right.
After two cup losses, I would be delighted with a draw in this game and hopefully we can take our good form forward to get something from this and boost the club coffers.

What happens if scores are level after 90 minutes?

It will go straight to a replay at Plainmoor, Frankfurt Gull. There would then be extra time and penalties if that one finished level.

o2b@plainmoor is bang on as far as the rules go, but I`d like to think we`re gunna win, so it wouldn`t matter what happened if we drew because hopefully we won`t need a replay! Will have fingers, toes, eyes ( can`t help thinking eye`s are supposed to be dotted but ) and possibly t`s crossed, after a few pints will probably have me legs crossed and all! Anyone got a St.George they can cross? If we lose then I`ll be cross! Trying to work noughts into this have have failed!

This would have been a stonewall game for me, Chesterfield being two hours away. I am though going to an Empowerment, so can't make it! Am I ever going to get to watch a match this season? I'm going for a 1:1 draw, and us to finish them off at our place!

That be another clean sheet Oz! A clean sheet is what we need tomorrow. In fact I would settle for 2 clean sheets in a row. The next 2 games could have quite an impact of our season. Lose both and its no FA Cup run, so no extra revenue and lose to the gargoyles and it gives them the bragging rights for a few months (unbearable), plus it gives them 3 valuable points that would move them to within a point of safety.

That would make it five in a row! Great if it could happen, not only for your reasons but would put us half way to a clean sheet record which can be a great motivator in itself!

Was thinking that me self - sounds like training of some sort? Probably some local government waste of money where a bunch of losers whinge about how unfair everything is and some feminist tells them to do the bleeding obvious and take responsibility for their own lives. Just saying....... I wasn't too bothered about the FA Cup. But as the game draws nearer I find that I am bothered and would really like us to get an extended run. The boys are doing well and it would be great for them to keep it going. Rene Howe is getting better and better. I saw his finish v Crewe and it was top drawer. Manse is inspired and the other lads are giving it all they've got. So I reckon a hard fought 0-1 to the good guys with Eunan doing the honours.
