Fantastic - really good that we've taken advantage of a strong sounding start - a long way to go yet, though. Great to see that another forward has scored - I think that a poor run must have really hit their confidence - Bodin and Howe combining well for the second goal.

Unfortunately the only two things that he looked to 'pop-in two' of were pizzas rather than goals come the end! Good for him though - they have a bargain now he is more settled and playing regularly - which is impressive considering he had to get in the side with Justin Richards and Calvin Zola. Shame it didn't work-out for us and Kee. <EDIT> Hat trick for Billy Kee - well done to him.

What a superb performance from our boys this afternoon.every player was immense even the much maligned Saah had a blinder. I do hope Ellis keeps his shirt when Robbo regains his fitness,it would be a travesty if he were to be dropped. Had a great afternoon today.But Why oh why is that orrible bloke who got thrown out a couple of weeks ago been allowed to return  the goggle eyed git is a complete discrace ... when Danny was subbed all you could hear was well deserved applause from every TUFC supporter recognising a good display .... apart from Goggle eyed git was shouting in his super loud voice YEES YEESS YESSS .... Well done players ... enjoy the nite. Peace |

So two wins in five days, just what the doctor ordered! Suddenly our season takes a whole new complexion and we can all breathe a little easier. Only a week ago I and many others could not see where a win was coming from and things were looking a little bleak. I missed our 4-0 mid-week win and what I saw today was impressive. Thanks in particular to a majestic performance from sponsors MOTM Mark Ellis, it was the first time this season I thought our defence looked like a proper unit at the back. And another clean sheet confirms its progress. I am not convinced Robertson plays well on the left side of defence whereas Mark looks at home there and rose to win header after header in his decisive manner. Saah also looks better with Ellis alongside him. I do get the impression the keeper and defence has been working on their communication and it was good to hear Olejnik shouting more. Lathrope in midfield again did a very good job protecting our back four. Crowd 2,459, 254 subdued supporters from Hereford.
Torquay started brightly and dominated the first half with an assured performance with the wind in their favour. Torquay had many corners and had one or two decent chances. O'Kane had the best of them from a decent move laid on by Mansell. The ball was teed up for him but O'Kane side-footed his shot wide of the post when he looked odds-on to score. Torquay deservedly took the lead 5 minutes from the break following a Nicholson free-kick on our right. The ball was whipped over and their keeper fumbled it and took it over the line - 1-0. The rub-of-the-green seems to be going with Torquay right now but we had earned the lead.
What summed us up today was just prior to our second goal on 44 minutes. Hereford had two decent scoring positions but on both occasions Ellis and Saah threw their bodies in with two great blocks. Torquay then countered Hereford, O'Kane put Howe through. Howe then used his strength to good effect, rounded their keeper and unsellfishly slipped the ball to Bodin to score with an open goal. So 2-0 half-time and Torquay's recent revival looked on course.
Torquay did have some decent chances in the second half. Hereford who had made two subs at half-time gave it a good go but you felt Torquay could exploit them on the counter attack. Torquay went through a spell of struggling to get anything going. Luckily Hereford's finishing tended to be poor, in particular a free header went over the bar. Olejnik made one late decent stop but otherwise had a quiet afternoon (a rarity). As I said earlier much of that was owed to our defence being solid, and that's the first time I've been able to say that this season!
McPhee came on for Danny Stevens who had another impressive display and Atieno came on for the hobbling Howe. Atieno had a shot cleared off the line and you felt when the ball came to him invitingly around 12 yards out he should have buried it. McPhee tried as usual, he did one or two decent things but also some dreadful mistakes. One point to make is that our attacking options on the bench are very limited and today it was clear our substitutions weakened the team. Luckily we were already winning 2-0. And that is how it stayed to the delight of the Plainmoor faithful.
A great five days for our club that has put our season back on track. Recalling Mark Ellis and putting Lathrope in front of the defence has made a big difference and Mark Ellis was our clear MOTM today in my eyes and also those sitting around me. He was head and shoulders above the others in more ways than one! And Nicholson did a lot of good tidying up, not for the first time this week! At least he caught up Mansell by one goal today.

It was so nice to be back at Plainmoor today and mainly as it gave me the chance to chat to so many TFF members and so many who have become very good friends. It was good to see half the old stand has now been taken down and I’m sure our new stand is going to be something that greatly adds to the ground.
If felt a bit strange and lacking in noise with the main popside singers no longer being where they always were in the past and I struggled to hear the TFF drum at all now they all stand closer to the away end.
I was not to sure what to expect from our players today after reading many recent reports on here and a few of our players I have not seen play before and it took me a little while to work out who the players were I did not know.
I have to say in my view we looked a well balanced team today and Ellis sure deserved to be named man of the match as I don’t think he hard put a foot wrong and certainly played a big part today in the Gulls keeping a clean sheet.
I also have to say I was very impressed with Bodin, I never seen him play before today and he sure has real talent and flair and will play such a big part in the rest of our season of that I’m sure. Howe grew in the game after what I though was a bit of a tame start and sure is very strong and it’s his strength that so often sees him coming away with the ball when he looks second favourite to do so.
The game in my opinion was rather a boring affair for the first twenty minutes or so and I started to think it was going to end up a boring nil nil game. We were the better team and on top and maybe should have taken the lead after Mansell laid a great ball back to Bodmin who put his shot past the left hand post.
Our opening goal was a bit of a strange affair, Nico was taking a free kick on the right hand side and I think everyone expected him to play the ball to the far post. Instead he took a low shot and while the keeper seemed to have saved it, a goal was given as the ball must have crossed the goal line. It’s always extra strange when that happens as the fans don’t celebrate as they do not know a goal has been scored.
Little Danny played well enough and did have one good effort from the edge of the box that he tried to curl the ball into the top corner but the ball went over the crossbar. If our first goal may have been a touch lucky, our second goal had class written all over it. Howe made a great run into and across the box and was played an inch perfect pass. He forced the keeper to come off his line and then laid the ball back to Bodin who had an empty net to fire the ball into.
Onto the second half and Danny went on a nice run down the middle and forced the keeper into making a save and not long after that Bodin hit a sweet volley almost on the turn that looked like it had gone in from my location on the popside.
Howe once again came away with the ball when he looked second best and it was a shame his shot was a bit wayward and went high over the bar. Did feel in the early part of the first half his heading was a bit poor when he was close to the Hereford goal and maybe should have done better with the headers he did have.
Hereford had a good spell later in the second half and I did feel we were a bit guilty of sitting back far to deep. When you do that as the soon as the ball comes out of your box, its only the other team who has a player who can get to the ball and play it back into our box again. Hereford had one really great chance after the ball sailed over our keeper after being played in from the right hand side. Elder looked certain to score with his head but the ball went high over the bar.
The gate was 2459 with 254 being Hereford fans and I suppose that gate may have been better then expected. On the whole I have to say we played well and should have won by a bigger margin than we did. It was a good job mind you that Elder put his header over the bar as then Hereford might have pressed even harder and got themselves a second goal.
Two wins on the trot and two clean sheets, what was all this I was reading about us being poor in defense? You would think the way we played today we should have no real worries and while we may not be good enough to make the play-offs, we should not end up in the drop zone.

It can't have been that a great ball! ;D Really good to read one of your match reports again Dave and in some ways it is nice to read a fresh perspective on the team this season. Unfortunately couldn't meet up in the gulls nest as did not pick up your post to after lunch! |

well missed the last two games but so glad we won,the results and reports quite extraordinary,its not the team i saw playing or reports match recent games.Its almost like we have a new team,no need to know why just keep it going now lads

Lots of positives today, not least another clean sheet. Oastler and Ellis in particular very impressive in the back four. A special mention to Saah as well, he has been much criticised but today and Tuesday he played well and hopefully he can form a good partnership with Ellis. Also nice to see Bodin much improved from Tuesday too. Howe a real handful upfront and Eunan starting to look more like the player of last season.
Keep it going lads, the last two games have proved a lot of people wrong (me included!) What a difference a week makes!!!

What a difference a week makes!!! Indeed, it looks like that old cliche about a week being a long time in politics applies to football as well. Suddenly, after our first back to back wins since the Rovers and Aldershot games, we are back in mid-table, 5 points from the play offs, 8 from automatic promotion and a comfortable 9 from the relegation zone. Ling has stated that he doesn't think we need any loan players brought in and today the starting XI all looked good enough, no doubt buoyed by the Wimbledon win but I would worry if one or two injuries were picked up. At the back, Saah and Ellis are starting to form a good partnership together and seemed to have raised their game significantly earlier in the season. In pre-season and the first few games, Oastler looked, surprisingly, very good at full back and again was good again today both in defence and going forward. The wings have been a problem for us but I think Bodin and Danny do represent our best options there with both capable of going past their man and being a goal threat. Danny fired a great cross field pass to Bodin after 12 minutes to create a chance and early in the second half almost made it three goals in three home matches but just screwed his shot wide of the far post. Bodin had one or two passes that went astray but scored a goal and was a threat on the right. In the middle, Lathrope played well, providing protection for the defence and allowing Mansell and Eunan to go forward. Up front, Howe seems to be playing with more confidence after his brace and did good work to provide the assist. Our passing game seems to be working well but unlike on Tuesday we were not as clinical in our finishing as we could have easily matched that result. Without a doubt, not conceding early on in the matches this week has helped as it is harder chasing a game and was responsible for many of those draws in the first part of the season. |
