Well done boys, just what the doctor ordered, let's take this into Saturday's game. Great to keep a clean sheet too, hopefully the defence will take confidence from that...a happy dressing room at last!!!

Their defence was worst than ours but it still took some great individual efforts to score. Our clean sheet was almost as important as the win and Saah played well, particularly when they had all the early pressure! |

Fabulous win.....lethal finishing, strong and purposeful at the back.
4-0 probably flattered us but we were easily the better side, we kept it tight for the 1st half hour and earned the right to play, Lingy got his team and tactics right tonight.
O'Kane was a class or two above anything else on the pitch, a nice goal and the "assist of the season" for our 3rd - what a cross!
In fact all 4 goals were a bit special...........roll on sat!

Ignoring Moronospelgorff or what ever the freak's name is. A welcome win against a team who it seems have a worse defence than we have.
Unfortunately did not make the game as there seemed to be some doubt as to whether the game was on or not.
If we can follow up against Hereford (which is by no means a foregone conclusion) and then beat Plymouth Argyles under 16's Ling might have a bit of breathing space.

It is a very thin line between being a very good team and being a very poor team - the difference between the two often being just a little bit of confidence.
Ellis got wrong side of his man a couple of times early on. If Wimbledon had taken advantage of one of those, what would have happened next?
They didn't. Danny cut inside and had a crack at goal which took a deflection and flew in. Crisis over! (for now!)
In fairness Ellis and Saah did settle down as the game wore on after a dodgy start.
I would always put Lathrope in the middle - I like the way he binds the team together.
We played Bodin and Stevens wide with O'Kane free, leaving Howe on his own up top.
Early on, you feared Howe might get isolated but as we got on the front foot we got men forward to join him.
Stevens was lively on the left - let's hope the knock that saw him subbed at half time is nothing serious.
Howe looked strong and determined up front.
O'Kane has been looking out of sorts recently, but when their defender dawdled in possession Eunan took advantage with a sublime finish. He then followed up with an even more delightful piece of skill to float the perfect cross for Howe to slam home.
After that, we were back to the old Eunan - the one we expect to sell for a very large fee at some time.
Fourth goal was weird. We seemed to waste a series of easy chances allowing the ball to be cleared as far as Howe who seemed to say "Look, this is how you put the ball in the net" as he hammered it home from 25 yards out.
Well I was looking for a scraggy 1-0 win, but I won't complain at not getting it.

Totally agree, quiet but vital role in this performance, i like the lad and don't think he gets the credit he deserves. |

I had a good feeling for this one with 2 magpies loitering outside my house when I got back from work but didn't dream of a 4-0 scoreline, particularly after a slow start. With Wimbledon, working the channels, quick to close us down, having a lot of possession but not making the most of half chances; they were not too dissimilar to our style of play initially back in the league. In fact Wimbledon had a good chance after just one minute but a close range header had no power with Olejnik gathering easily and this set the tone to him having a good game. There was quite a bit of early pressure but with Saah winning his headers and being in the right place at the right time, we were able to get back into the game whilst still on an even keel! Most of our good play came from the left with Danny being a constant threat with Nicholson supporting well. On one such foray, Nicholson was able to get to the ball a fraction of a second before their committed defender releasing Danny clear who was able to cut inside and let fly with a spectacular shot to change the complexion of the match. I was just hoping to get to half time still in the lead but some Eunan magic saw us first go two up and then setting up Howe to put us firmly in the driving seat. After the start of the second half at Southend, I wasn't too confident but thought we would get a much needed win if we didn't concede in the first ten minutes. Not only was this done but we scored again with their back line opening up to let Eunan through and although we somehow didn't score initially, the ball came out to Howe who shot past an unsighted keeper into the bottom left hand corner. I would really recommend catching up on all the goals when they come out on the BBC!  We actually had a couple of more chances to score with Bodin coming closest, shooting just across the face of goal but as the half wore on, we seemed content to protect our lead, even though parts of the crowd were frustrated we didn't take some opportunities to counter attack quicker or get the ball forward more but then you can't please everybody! Ellis went down late on which was worrying with Robbo failing a late fitness test but was able to proceed although did choose to chest and then kick a ball shortly after as opposed to one of his trademark booming headers! Stevens was substituted after half time after picking up a knock but hopefully will be fit for Saturday's game where another win will see us in comfortable mid table territory!  Edit: I see Danny had flu like symptoms or more likely a heavy cold!  |
