Our run of playing some of the better sides in this division continues against a Southend side that had just won six games in a row before drawing at home against Morecambe. This run included some pretty decent results including 0-4 away to Rotherham and 3-0 home to Shrewsbury. Goals have obvious not being a problem with Dickinson top scoring with five but Hall, Phillips and Mohsui all on four and the latter coming off the bench for a lot of his matches. A lot of their goals have been scored late on so it will be a battle to the end
This is going to be very tough but it is a tight division with a lot of unpredictable results so you never know but to be frank, I would be delighted with a draw on this one.
So we know that Ellis is coming back into the side and I would like to see him partner Robertson - it is not as if they don't know how each other plays and when Robbo did go to right back earlier this season, it wasn't a success and this is the only combo in central defence yet to be tried.
The next question is 4-4-2 or 4-5-1/4-3-3? For me, I thought we had a lot more goal threat last Saturday and would prefer the former coupled with the fact that Howe is not a targetman that plays well on his own up front. I would also like to see Bodin partner him but then the question is who goes on the wings? Danny has come back into the mix well on the left in the absence of Morris but who is up to speed on the right?
Atieno and McPhee have not shone here in what is a secondary position for them. Macklin has played well there in pre season and some of the reserve matches but is inexperienced and has not made an impact when it really matters although does have the potential. The answer, as suggested earlier this week may be to put O'Kane there, leaving Mansell to get forward in this formation with Lathrope covering in the holding role.
Lots of permutations there but without any loan cover, Ling needs to find the formula that works and fast!
