I'd suggest that Northampton and Bradford both brought bigger away followings than the teams we've faced so far, which accounts for some of the drop. That is why I specifically only used Maccy and Cheltenham (both being played on the same day of the week as last season) for a crowd figure comparison.

On the subject of attendances, weren't we still on a run at the start of last season, carrying over from the end of the previous season, which we finished in stunning fashion and looking like setting records for not conceding a goal etc ? This might have boosted crowds a bit.

But we had just 168 more spectators for the corresponding game against Cheltenham (also on a Tuesday) last season. That followed a 5-0 thumping of Shrewsbury on the preceeding Saturday! And at the 'business end' of the season too. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the 'wins at Plainmoor = lots of keen new fans' hypothesis is it?

Did we compare the amount of away fans for each fixture? Possibly this time round they bought less with them thus contributing to the difference in figures?

Good point Aus.
But we're dealing with pretty small figures whatever the reasons.

No but I was there and remember clocking how many they brought with them, every game me and a couple of stewards try to guess how many fans are in the away end, after several seasons of doing this you get pretty good at it. Some times you can physically count them, especially on a Tuesday night when the opposition has to travel along way.
