We may have lost against Cheltenham in the JPT but I would gladly swap that for a home win in the league! Our next four matches are against teams higher in the league than us which is some mean feat when you are sixth! As it happens, we are only separated from Cheltenham by our respective positions in the alphabet with an identical tally of ten goals scored and seven conceded matching our respective points total of twelve. They have however, played the extra odd game at home winning three out of four there!
Cheltenham have reached the same place by a different route to us, winning four (Macclesfield, Northampton, Swindon and Crawley) and losing three! (Gillingham, Morecambe and Aldershot). Of the four teams that we have both played, they have accrued nine points to our seven with their best result, (IMO) being a 3-1 win against Crawley.
Listening to the radio, our old friend Kaid was a threat in the JPT match although that was a very much under strength side. Other players to look out for are Goulding, who is their top scorer with four in the league, also Duffy and Spencer are both on two with the latter scoring a late goal on Saturday against Macclesfield to make the game safe. Their manager has described their last couple of games as scrappy so maybe the game won't be too free flowing?
Amazingly, having not really played great in most games so far, Torquay are only two points behind where we were at this stage after a flying start last season! Although we do have a tough run coming up, only two points were gained from the following five matches a year ago so Ling has a great chance of being ahead of where we were at the twelve game stage previously which is pretty good going for a transitional phase. ;D
As for the team, I am still not 100% sure of our best starting XI although nine positions are pretty much assured. I was quite pleased to see Bodin start on the right wing but will this still be the case if Danny or Lloyd are back from injury! Up front, McPhee did well against Macclesfield but that one on one miss at the weekend may put him under pressure from either Atieno or Bodin to start there. Howe, will be nailed on to start up front but coming back from injury may once again need to be replaced in the latter stages.
This is our first evening match of the season and with the weather still relatively warm, hopefully a decent crowd will be there.
