You don't mind when the other team is too good but when mistakes are being made which lead to goals being conceded it is incredibly frustrating and I suspect that the Ellis / Saah experiment will now be quietly dropped with the question remaining as to who will partner Robbo?

Chelston Would be interested to know what your goal(s) would be if you were on the board, or, manager. Milber Our manager obviously agrees with me (doubt he'd put it in writing) with the side he has put out and/or the way they are/have been playing. If we took 7,000 odd to the Play Off Final with 'heck of a lot' riding on it how many would we take to the Watch the Paint dry final? The only two cups (available to us) which are ' worth it' are the Carling Cup and FA Cup in which we have a chance in landing a big fish in which to attract quality players ala Stanley. Bar the Bristol Rovers game (which I missed) I don't think we've had a decent first half performance this season. Good point about the Play-Offs Chelston, and as you say, if we took that many to OT for an important game how many would we take to Wembley for the paint final? One thing I hate is going to a three quater empty stadium! It's common knowledge that we actually LOST money from the trip to OT and yet some people want to do it again! Still, there's nowt as queer as folk!

I’m not sure when this competition came into place, but I do remember when it was the Sherpa Van Trophy, it was not viewed in the same negative way it is today and it did give our club its first ever appearance at the Old Wembley Stadium. The competition started in the early 1980s with Wembley finals coming on the scene in the mid 1980s. It’s always been “low key” in the early stages and, if you look back twenty-odd years, you’ll see pretty poor crowds in the first few rounds with plenty of younger and fringe players being “blooded”. It’s never really had a “Golden Age” outside of the final. The major difference is that the lure of Wembley was enormous back in the 1980s when the only professional sides who appeared there were the major cup finalists. This started to change when the play-off finals went to Wembley in 1990 (a year after our Sherpa Van final against Bolton). Also of course, as soon as a club had played at Wembley once, the novelty started to wear off. We quickly saw this through the difference between our first visit (against Bolton) and our second for the Blackpool play-off two years afterwards. Friday night or not, the interest was always going to be smaller the second time even though it was a more important game. The effect on the JPT is that it now “burns more slowly” than it once did. There was a time when interest picked up around the stage of the final-sixteen/ last-eight with the national semi-finals (area finals) being massive occasions. Now the crowds remain poor for longer with even the two-legged last-four games not being what they were.

We could have done with out playing th PissPot Trophy as now we have a doubt over a strikers fitness, either that or just use the game as a friendly and blood youngsters and get non-regulars game time!

Too true on that Aussie, but the JPT has some funny rules attached. You have to start with at least 6 of the players who have started in your other matches, or something like that. Of course there are still ways of protecting your players. For instance Sheffield Wednesday subbed their keeper after 2 minutes & a couple of other key players after 18 minutes, but you do have to field a decent team for the kick off at least. web.orange.co.uk/article/sports/megson_plays_down_subs_decision
