In 2007, now-Rotherham manager Andy Scott said this: "The medicals are nowhere near stringent enough. The fact of the matter is that everyone should be tested. How many times are people going to die? Is it going to take a Wayne Rooney or David Beckham to keel over before anyone sits up and takes notice? Its getting ridiculous now." "There is clearly no reason why a young person should die when they are in the prime of their career and fitness. Its complete ignorance that this has not been taken further. This is an ideal opportunity now to make it compulsory for all players to be screened." I think it should be an FA initiative, backed by the PFA. There are mobile screening units who go around and can identify imperfections in the heart that could indicate sudden death syndrome. It needs a sweep now of all the players that are under contract. It would only take 10 minutes to check a player." www.c-r-y.org.uk/andy_scott_quotes.htmScott's own career ended when he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. We all hope Muamba survives this tragedy, and I hope this is the event that forces the administrators running our national game to wake-up and take action.

Absolutely. This can't continue happening. I was watching the game yesterday. I missed the moment of the incident itself but when I noticed something was up, it was immediately apparent that it was a serious incident, as the camera was only focusing on the pitch from long distance and the players and fans' expressions were shocking
There have been too many incidents like this in recent years - Longhurst, Robbie James, Foe, Feher, Serginho, Gadsby, Puerta, O'Donnell, Jarque, Matsuda, not to mention the likes of Idrizaj, de Nigris, Di Tommaso and Richard Butcher who died while not on the field of play, and Clive Clarke who was very fortunate to survive. There is a real need to sort this out

agree with everything said on here thus far, just hope muamba pulls through with little or no lasting effects due too lack of oxygen for so long, total respect to the medics who worked miracles yesreday to keep him alive. With the amount of money generated in the game there is no excuse for heart checks to be made compulsory for players to have done, peace of mind and the end of sudden deaths would result from this.Stats now show it isnt as rare as first thought but screenable, lets not have anymore of this by implementing the technology to detect it
