Well, well, well, after some "lively debate" in the "are we ready to go up thread" we actually have a tie in this competition so two yellow jerseys are to be handed out this week!
I would describe the first poster as "direct" in his writing style and certainly not afraid to put his views across but that is what a forum is for and while he is not a regular, things have certainly been more lively with his input this month! The second poster has some good solid views and his winning post really struck a chord with members to propel him up there.
So many congratulations to both Rags and Milber for their posts this week!
Ignoring your view that we are employing defensive and negative tactics (because I don't happen to agree with you) I'll concentrate on the point about needing to fund better players.
I don't agree that we will undoubtedly have to resource better players by spending large amounts of money.
If anything has been proved by our perfomances this season it is that organisation can mean lesser players giving more to the team effort than better players could.
If anyone believes that we have to go and buy better players to survive in League 1 then they my only conclusion is that they haven't been paying attention to the football we have been playing this season.
We need a skilful midfield creator so either go and spend wads of cash or grab Eunan O'Kane from the scrap-heap. We need a cultured midfield dead-ball specialist and passer so either go and spend wads of cash or grab Nathan Craig from the scrap-heap.
My point isn't that these two players are the be-all and end-all of our success, but that very good players are available at very minimal cost due to supply exceeding demand. And Martin Ling has proved he can spot a gem. He built this team in a few weeks once he got the job, can you imagine what work he is currently doing on rebuilding the team for next season? Irrespective of what division we are in.
It was only a few weeks ago that this forum was very concerned that four of our first team were going to be sold to League 1 or the Championship. As it happened only 1 went. Now there are some who are worried that the squad isn't good enough to survive in League 1
I believe that Martin Ling has a system that will work in League 1.
I believe he knows exactly which players can't work that system and need to be replaced.
And I believe he won't need to break the bank to replace them.
It is pointless and a waste of energy worrying about what others might or might not do.
As individuals we just need to enjoy the current heady experience of utd doing well.
I have faith in the board and the employees of utd to do their absolute best for the club. If thats enough to get us promoted..fantastic. If its not,we will have had a great season and will have the infrastructure to challenge again.
If the public turns up in numbers great, if not then I`m sure those that do will get behind the Gulls.
For a club our size it is all about exisiting on a year by year basis. If we go up it will depend on the players we can put out and the tactics employed. Hopefully we will retain the backroom staff.
We shouldn`t worry whether we are ready for the future, that is the job of the board and ML.
I can feel a chant coming on (English version)..........

However, with promotion to League One now looking to be a distinct possibility, larger attendances will undoubtedly be required in order to fund the signing of better players. Does anyone really believe that dormant supporters will be attracted to come and watch game after game in which such defensive and negative tactics are employed ?
