OOPS! Thought I has posted this last night!
There have been some good posts this week and good to see Dave slowly getting back into the swing of things and getting points for this! Also quite liked Budleigh's post on the promotion thread reflecting on an awful lot of moaning! ;D
However, the winner this week spends a lot of time locked away in the history room but he does venture out on occasions and in this instant it was on something topically in response to Dave's question about the trust and its relationship to Lou legends night. A sound post that I think resonated with some... congratulations Jon!
It has been mentioned to me that some people who have seen Dave's anti-TUST post on another thread might get the impression that this is some kind of "anti-TUST" event - put on to compete with TUST's upcoming event or to undermine TUST's efforts.
Let me assure everyone that this is absolutely not the case - I would not go anywhere near this event if I thought for one second it was. I am very much a TUST member and hope to see a number of fellow TUST members at Buckland.
Lou set this event up to give a good night out to TUFC supporters and to raise money for charity - as simple as that.
When I heard that TUST was putting on a similar event, I first thought there might be a bit of a problem if the two events were too similar. As it is, I think they will appeal to different audiences which is great.
People who would enjoy both and can afford both will be able to attend both. People who would not be attracted to one for whatever reason may well be attracted to the other - so everyone is a winner.
My personal preference is very much for Lou's style of event. Informal, inexpensive for the fan yet able to raise funds as you don't have to fork out a fortune for outside guest speakers and "comedians". Give me Torquay United and a pasty over Man United and a prawn sandwich any day.
There is no harm in TUST covering the whole spectrum of support though and I don't have a problem with that. Their website does suggest that they are looking to put on more informal social events, which is good to hear:
"Bernie Phillips has recently joined the board to promote various events for the Trust and our members. We will shortly be announcing a very special event in March 2012. He will also be arranging more casual social events every few months".
