Tell me when you get bored of my info posts ;D. Have decided to post a complete league history list for TUFC. No doubt i think Jon Lovis or others already have this info. May be of some interest to some: Note i am only posting current league teams. Will cover all non league or lost teams when i finish.
ASTON VILLA P4 W2 D1 L1 F5 A7
We have also met them in the FA Cup once in the 70/71 season and we beat them 3-1 at home.

The absolute peak as far as I recall in my half a century supporting The Gulls. It never got any better than winning at Villa Park in front of 32,000 through that screamer from the late Mickey Cave and absolutely murdering them in the FA Cup at Plainmoor. Even the thumping we got in our second and final visit to Brum remains etched in the memory.

You may see hundreds and hundreds of games but there's always the ones you wish you saw. If only...

Glad you've put the disc on, Dave, because I've been desperately searching for the lyric sheet. If memory serves correctly the song was originally written for the Villa FA Cup tie with some of the words later being changed to make it into a promotion song: "We're right behind you Torquay when the Villa come to town" being altered to "We're right behind you Torquay when the opponents come to town", etc.
I've also got a vague memory of Dick playing in a friendly for Manchester United against Aberdeen (they got well stuffed) towards the end of Frank O'Farrell's time at Old Trafford. Probably the sort of act that got poor old Frank the sack!

I followed hom through to his Newton Rangers days and would love to find info on this friendly.

I've looked on the web and have found a programme for sale for a Aberdeen v Man United friendly on 23 October 1972. My memory says it was played as part of the Martin Buchan transfer and resulted in something like a 5-2 win to Aberdeen. I'm sure the Herald covered the Dick Edwards angle at the time but, of course, I might have been dreaming.

You could contact the HE Brett, but you may not be lucky, when they went digital they did not keep everything. I know that as the photo Of me on the forum as a Spurs mascot, was one such thing that was never copied over.

Aberdeen won 5-2 - Ted MacDougall scored both for Man U. Stepney Watson Dunne Young A EdwardsBuchan Morgan MacDougall Best Young E McIlroy It was reported in the Herald. Brett, if you go to Torquay Library and ask, they can bring up the Herald for 23/10/72 and 24/10/72 on a Microfilm reader and you can print off copies for 10p per page (unless it's gone up in the last few years). Dick missed our home game on Saturday 21/10/72, but rejoined the squad at Barnsley on the Tuesday and played his second 90 minutes in two days. On the Wednesday, West Ham (including the great Bobby Moore) came to Plainmoor for Bob Glozier's Testimonial. Edwards did not play in that one - lazy b*ggar!

Eric Young was a reserve team player, the others were all in the first team squad. I still can't really believe that Dick Edwards played - but it seems that he did!

Nice one, Jon.
Two rare Man Utd goals for Ted MacDougall. Five league goals only for them and just the five for West Ham - after big transfers - but nine in one game for Bournemouth (v Margate in the FA Cup).
And, I'm afraid, one or two against Torquay United during a spell of a very keen Bournemouth v Torquay rivalry in the early 1970s.
