i quite often surf the net looking at past players for us,and yesterday checked up on peter coffill, lots of us older ones remember him playing for us in the mid to late 70s.What astounded me was the fact he is still playing at the ripe old age of 54,he turns out regularly for the england over 45s,total respect to him,he was also not a bad player in his time with us,he also played professionally for watford and northampton,34 years ago he was pulling on a tufc shirt and now still doing the business

It was mid-August in 1979 and I was working in the Beach Hotel, Teignmouth as barman and dishwasher.
Having finished my stint one morning I met up with a couple of pals for a day on the beach and we duly settled down for some leisurely activities.
It was mid-afternoon when one of the aforementioned pals and myself starting throwing a frisbee around aware of a group to our right playing a game of beach football. One particular throw of his found me back-peddling furiously as the frisbee soared over me. I turned my head and body to try and catch it just as one of the players from the footie game was bearing down on the two towels that marked one of their goals. I saw a look of panic on his bearded face as we tangled and I our knees clashed whereupon he slumped to the sand in a rather awkward manner. Rushing up to ask if he was okay, in his trademark squeeky voice, was his bandy-legged best mate, at which point the stricken fellow pulled himself up. After a handshake between the two of us he hobbled over to sit on his towel where he spent the rest of the afternoon.
That Peter Coffill had played two league cup games at that point, but then didn't start a game for United until the end of September has always nagged away at the back of my mind.

Didn't you 'crock' some other Torquay player as well?

A small altercation with Steve Cooper in John Menzies that may well have changed the course of that particular season...

Just how many TUFC legends can one man wipe out? Maybe we should have a game of "Budleigh Cluedo" trying to deduce Leigh's next grizzly confession - victim, place and weapon of choice. To recap, we have had: Steve Cooper in John Menzies with a shopping basket and Peter Coffill on Teignmouth Beach with a frisbee I'm going for: Tommy Sermanni in Doodles Nightclub with a drunken John Travolta impersonation

1981
Vince O'Keefe; Exeter Eye Hospital; Bed Pan...
But I'd rather not elaborate any further if that's okay.

Vince O'Keefe; Exeter Eye Hospital; Bed Pan... I'd like to think you are joking, but I've got a funny feeling you're not.

Jon, never looked at the history room much before, but seen this and discovered tonight I've played with a vets team the last couple of years and their organiser says he regularly plays with Peter Coffill for England over 50s. Was it Dave Tomlin who helped form Torquay's version of Man U's Gordon Hill and Steve Coppell at that time. I'm going to try and get picked for England over 50s now! By the way, what's your email address so I can contact you direct rather than always through here?
