Unusually low rainfall has led to very low water levels in the Rhine. At Koblenz a two ton unexploded bomb from the Second World War has been found on the bed of the Rhine and will be defused on Sunday. 45,000 inhabitants have to be evacuated during operations including the "residents" of the prison.

Parts of the south-east are also suffering from lack of water over here as well.
It is amazing how many bombs are unearthed even in the south west on a regular basis but I really dread to think how many come to light in your part of the world with the amount of saturation bombing that went on!

The water level on the Rhine is so low that the barges can only be loaded to 20% capacity. At Mainz there is a tall ship anchored at the bank of the Rhine which has a rather classy restaurant on board, it has been temporarily closed as the deck is keeling over at 45 degrees and the wine won´t stay in the glass. One of the inmates of the Koblenz prison was interviewed on the local radio, they are all looking forward to a day out! Koblenz are playing Gladbach II at home so I half expect a few "runners."
