Spammers
For the second day on the trot, the TFF has seen a spammer join and make a number of posts that while not offensive in anyway as far as I could tell, were simply unwelcome span. Lou phoned me yesterday while I was in Bodmin and made me aware of the problem and she then took action to deal with the posts made as Rob was not around to deal with it.
This morning once again a number of posts were made clearly by the same person and those posts have been removed along with all the ones made yesterday and the accounts made inactive to prevent them being used again. It’s very possible we may have the same problems for a number of days and can I please ask that you do not reply to the spam posts because as soon as we are able to, we will remove them and ban the accounts being set up.
Many thanks
Dave

You can ban the I.P address Dave. It's on the admin page. If it is the same person they`ll have a the same I.P (Internet Provider) address (Unless their using a proxy I.P). ??

A lot of these are bots which register "automatically" (i.e. without someone typing stuff in). I can't remember what it was like when I signed up but one way of trying to cut down the number of spammers registering is to put in some form of verification. That will at least stop most of the bots
Unfortunately, though, it's very difficult to stop all of them. I'm a staff member at another forum where the software is a lot more sophisticated than here and even then we still have the odd spammer or 2 every couple of weeks
