See Suffolk side Leiston progressed through in the F.A cup last night, with two goals scored by a certain Mr Stuart Boardley, remember him (well I sort of do, vaguely). ;D

My ever-lasting memory of Stuart Boardley came in what I think ended as a 0-0 draw at Peterborough when he missed from approximately 10 inches off the line with the keeper stranded. Amazingly that season he played for us was in League One, but there was never a chance of him making it in the pro game because he was just so easy to knock off the ball.
He's always been based in Suffolk apart from his spell with us.
Maybe Mello Yello will have heard of his brother Carl, who is a multiple world stock car champion.

We had scores of the buggers during the Bateson years, none of them any good as the example of Boardley playing at Leiston upholds. Thank goodness we've moved on from that to being run as a proper professional football club.

Didn't Stuart Wardley end up with AFC Sudbury as well at some point?

Stuart Wardley returned to his native Saffron Walden Town, the 23rd oldest club in the world! Last heard of coaching Debden, a nearby village team.

Wardley - he could have been a contender! Just as he was starting to get fit (and didn't he score a couple of goals for us as well?), he went back up country. I think that he would have done very well if he had stayed.

I must look on google when I got time, unless anyone knows the site and can post a link, but the site had a list Of every single player every to put on a TUFC shirt and I was amazed how many have.

This should give details of who has played in the Football League for Torquay since 1946/47 until relegation in 2007: www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/torquay/torquay.htmThis should give a list of players making Football League appearances since 1927 (but you'd need a subscription for extra detail): allfootballers.com/screen2.phpIn both cases the statistics, as is common, relate only to main season Football League games (without playoffs or cup games being included). Most compilers of this type of information will not count appearances in the BSP or any other league (this also applying to the Rothmans/Sky yearbook). For example, most sources will only record Lee Mansell's 45 FL appearances during 2006/07 regardless of any subsequent BSP games he plays for the club. www.soccerbase.com seems fine for BSP games. Erratic for other fixtures - only counted latter stages of FA Trophy last season and doesn't appear to include 4QR of FA Cup.

I was going to make the crack that, in the nature of these things, local newspapers in East Anglia probably describe Stuart Boardley as the "ex-Ipswich and Torquay star".
Then, on the East Anglian Daily Times site, I see this:
Stuart, who is the younger brother of World stock car champion Carl Boardley, said: “I have played in the third round with Torquay, but reaching the first round with Leiston is a much greater achievement as we have had to play seven games to get there".
Well, this is either a case of misquoting or selective memory.
Stuart Boardley indeed has the honour of representing TUFC in the FA Cup (which we do not) but it was against Hinckley in the First Round.
Had to smile at Merse getting the word Rosenior into his posting but you know a club or manager is struggling when players such as Stuart Boardley appear on the scene. An even better guide is where they go afterwards.
I thought one of the measures of progress last season was that the team fielded in the midweek "reserve" friendly against Bristol Rovers was superior to many of the teams fielded in the last season in the league. Even the weakest of Paul Buckle's signings - and, yes, not all will be successful - is not quite in the Ashley Keane, Jamie Gosling, Owen Story, Osvaldo Lopes or Paul Jarvie category (that League One season seems ever more bizarre as time progresses).
Okay so Leslie Thompson might be an exception...
