Is that right Jamie? Jamie Ward scored, was he not that class forward who we let go? just shows what Merse knows about football and how good players really are

Even more enjoyable as I watched Spotlight through Sky and heard how they could go top!! Great top see them fall flat on their face. perhaps they can find their real level now.
Why is it that we rarely get a mention on the local news? i know the programme is based in Plymouth and obviously will crawl up their arse at every opportunity but a little acknowledgement that we exist every now and then would be nice.
It's the same here in Wales. It's all Cardiff, a little Swansea, very little Wrexham and the rest don't matter

I was a bit peed off that they'd buggered up my coupon for tonight......until I saw the score that is.. LMFAO
Jamie Ward, isn't that the lad who according to a certain chairman had dodgey knees and wouldn't be able to play for much longer !!!
Anywaym cheers Geeks for brightening up my dark, cold, Scottish evening.

Well, I did pay money to witness an intriguing night's football at SJP.
Jamie Ward was his usual mixture of ability and attitude - some good play and a dreadful foul on Tully (I think). Excellent performance in midfield from Lloyd Kerry, who we had on loan during the depths of Chris Roberts' Circus.
In the first-half Chesterfield did what they did with great effect; City played their football to little effect. At the start of the second half City had a good spell and it was easy to suspect the game wasn't over.
Then, against the run of play, Chesterfield got their third and City completely collapsed. Catch the dreadful defensive errors on the telly when you've a chance. The basic rule amongst the defenders seemed to be to pass the ball between themselves and then, once he's in a sufficiently dangerous position, give it to an opponent. The last few minutes of the game had a rare hollowness about it with Darren Currie having a great chance to make it seven.
A certain day against Scunthorpe apart, it's a long time since I've seen anything quite like it. Maybe it was something of a freak, and it might not herald a plunge down the table, but it did highlight the almost complete lack of Football League experience in their defence (aside from Tully's time with us).

Only saw this result this morning. Almost choked on my Coco Pops. Needless to say a few texts went out to certain friends soon after!
For those of you who know Facebook, I thought I'd rub it in a little more:

We hardly gave him away for nothing, unless £95,000 and a 25% sell-on fee counts for nothing these days. And unless he signs a new contract in January I'd expect that 25% to be worth a little more cash when Chesterfield sell him.

Capitalgull, In my opinion we should have been able to get at least £150,000 for him. We should have kept him to the end of the season, at least, as he was still maturing and learning the trade. But because Roberts needed £100,000 to pay off the loan to Bateson, as that was what Bateson had loaned him before, he took the 95K offer and paid that money to Bateson. I've heard that Derby want to sign Ward, and Paul Jewell was watching their game against Aldershot last week...and he scored a hat-trick, so hopefully he goes for 1/2 a million or so...and we cash in!

To be fair to Chris Roberts (and that's something I never thought I would say), Ward was nothing like the known commodity back then that he is now, and it was a time when any kind of fee for a League Two player was welcomed.
Bear in mind as well there were serious doubts about his knee, and that he played only three times for Chesterfield after signing for them before needing almost two months out with that same knee problem, and £95,000 plus the sell-on was a pretty decent deal for us.

I'd be elated if we could get some more money for Jamie Ward, but I always hate waiting for these deals to go through - remember how we waited for Rodney Jack, Leon Constantwhine, Akinfenwa, Gary Monk, Darren Moore, Wayne Thomas et al to move to big clubs for big money - always on the verge of moves - never actually going through with them!!

We got £60k for Darren Moore moving from Doncaster and maybe something for some of the others
