A home reverse for Torquay United in this 1952 fixture against Port Vale. So much for Buccaneer of the Western Morning News who had told us that Torquay were "looked upon as fairly safe winners".
Points of interest from his column: Shaw, McGuinness and Towers all on the transfer list; an estimation that 50% of football clubs were "in the red".
Buccaneer likes the look of young Northcott who'd shown a willingness to "hand out punishment" during the previous week's game at Northampton. By the end of 1952 Tommy would have moved on to greater things.
