As I write this post, my thoughts are very much with those members setting out on the Walk for Carol in North Devon. I am gutted for family reasons that I won't be there today and hope that it goes well and maybe today is the day to donate if you haven't already done so!
A bit more voting has gone on this week as arguments have continued in the aftermath of Bucks leaving and casting his eye over some of our players and all the consequences that this has left us with. Very sad to see that it has got personal in some instances and I always take that as a sign that you have lost the argument in that case and I think that Lambeth's comment on this was spot on and sums up the ethos of this site. Also, it really is boring to read that sort of stuff and isn't what members here want!
So on to this week's winner who is going to have at least a week in a different colour! In his winning post he asked about those who are "genuinely concerned share and sympathise with my views" and I think I count myself as one together with much about what Chris writes about TUFC. So well done ChrisH on just pipping Barton Downs, with many more interesting posts added to this forum!
Whatever the scenario, its happened, hes gone, history ,thanks for Zebs for what you did do for us when you were here.
We can prepare ourselves now to begin the story once again, a new chapter and a new road to travel.
If we fail we know where we will end up if successful we can sit back and just watch our best player leave for peanuts all over again.
I guess thats the very nature of our existence, its always been the way, a game of snakes and ladders.
Chris you cannot deny that these sort of events are damaging and could quite possibly affect attendances after all what is the point of building a decent and successful squad
only to see it broken up in a few short weeks with what appears to be a blaze attitude from the board? People will lose interest particularly if we start the new season badly.
I know the management and board are working hard to stabilise the sittuation but working hard doesn't guarantee results or success there are many other factors that will influence our immediate and long term future.
The Zebs affair and his comments just turns the 'knife in a wound that is still pretty raw.
I hope I don't appear to be a nutter but I would guess there are many other who are genuinely concerned share and sympathise with my views.
Fair enough Pete. I don't believe that he's lied or the board have been blasé (blaze = Dave Webb ) about anything recently. I think they have to work extra hard in order to organise the club and build solid foundations for our future. The youth programme, the reserve team, the pitches at the training ground and the new grandstand. We don't know the exact fee for Zebroski but it met the board's valuation of a player who wanted to leave whether for family reasons or a better wedge, which let's face it, is indirectly family reasons especially if you have a nipper, a battered old car and an other half who prefers shopping at Waitrose. It certainly doesn't help when our resident Australian says that he was told by a Bristol Rover's director that they'd spent £150,000 then it's an undisclosed fee, then the Herald Express and the Bristol Evening Post report £35,000 and now the Herald today says it's £40,000 with sell on clauses. Lets not forget that we're also saving over £50,000 on his wages this coming season, which would've had an impact on the fee, especially if they've upped his wages from a grand a week to £1500. The board had a decision to make but the fact was that 6 months down the line from signing a pre-contract agreement and left for nothing whilst being possibly disruptive at Plainmoor and costing us a grand a week. As Martin Ling was quoted as saying he's was glad that the whole Zebroski situation had been resolved.
I think it's a shame that I won't be seeing the likes of Craig Stanley and Chris Zebroski but lets not lose sight of the fact Bevs and Branno were out of contract anyway and our better players in the last few months were on loan from other clubs. I think there was going to be a mass exodus if we'd gone up or not or Buckle would've stayed or not.
Since the events at Old Trafford we've had some big changes at the club but I like the appointment of Martin Ling and I like the signings he's made so far. I wish everyone who's left the club the very best of luck with their future careers. They all gave 100% while they were here and it's the fact of the modern game that loyalty to a given manager is a lot more than to the club who employ them.
If we are to be a club known for youth development and forward thinking then I can't help thinking we should stop some of this petty sniping at former employees, formulating conspiracy theories and going hunting for scapegoats and devote some of these energies into supporting the board, the manager and the players during the course of the season.
I haven't really taken offence or been wounded by the departures so far, but I will be very pissed off if Captain Buckbeard waves his transfer cutlass at Euuunan mind you. I saw an inflatable cutlass on Brixham high street today. It would be some sight to see a hundred of those in the Torquay end at the memorial ground.
