I'm currently listening to the Non-League Show on BBC London and all the talk is about 5-6 big name players being available for transfer.
Problems at the Dustbins then. It was talked about before the season how clubs can sustain these types of players on 1500 at best crowds.
Players like- Marriot Osano Clare Knight Wolleaston and our own Phillips
All on big money. It could be an interesting week.
It's quite good listening. Check it out through BBC Sport webpage

You do wonder how clubs can meet players wages On such low gates, so its no surprise really that they need to let players go.
let us not forget our own gates are well below what the club set Its budget on and If we do not have a good cup run that brings In some big money, we may find that we will be listing players as well.

You had me worried there for a minute pikey, but as I said, I would not be to surprised If we did not have to move one or two out at some time.

Reading Garry Hill's after match interview on the R&D Official site and considering the FACT that despite laying out a lot of money in the summer; I would say he is contemplating getting the sack. I used to chat with him occasionally when he was in charge of Dagenham & Redbridge, and he's a brutally honest guy who (although he played pro' football for Fulham) still carried on turning out in Sunday football whilst managing D&R. Diamonds haven't had a gate of even two thousand yet this season as far as I can recall and (Gulls fans take note) when directors are put under THAT sort of pressure, something HAS to give eventually. Looking at the individuals in the squad at Nene Park, there are a few there (Clare, Phillips, Burgess and Woodhouse for starters) who won't be playing for peanuts; yet judging by the poor motivation and desire they put on show when we beat them the other week, the club definitely AREN'T getting value for money. In those circumstances, and given the early cup exit added to little sign of a concerted title push; the seeds are sown for a serious question and answer session in the boardroom I'd say!

I wonder if problems at R&D are short-term - relating to the manager - or something more structural and long-term?
I lost track after Max Griggs (Dr Marten) departed but, after a spell of trust control, the club seems to be back in the hands of a single owner, Keith Cousins (once associated with Peterborough). He's obviously been splashing out - not just on players but employing someone like Garry Hill can't be a cheap option - so you can only speculate on whether he's either ready to spend again or unable/unwilling to continue the same level of funding.
For sure the club has the advantage of income-generating facilities (with scope for more) - being bang on the A6 helps - but crowds are low, expectatations diminishing and, just as under Max Griggs, the whole set-up looks in need of continuous bankrolling.
I guess part of the problem, from the spectator angle, is that back in the early 1990s, the club was formed almost entirely to fulfil aspirations. With Max Griggs' backing these were routinely achieved: stadium, Conference, Football League, promotion (in just the way now envisioned at Truro City).
Then the downfall and suddenly what's the point? Not quite enough history, sufficient concrete foundations but insufficient cultural roots. An opulent-enough stadium but basically an oasis in the desert (if you've not been to Irthlingborough - somewhere that has neither evening public transport nor anywhere to stay as I've learned to my cost - it's hard to describe. Possibly a slightly-bigger version of Buckfastleigh? Or maybe Kingsteignton without the cosmopolitan influence of Newton Abbot?).
It has been easy to be wrong about R&D in the past. The club doesn't really fit a description. It's not typically ex-Football League, it's not "organic" (Kettering would be more so in that area), it's...well...it's Rushden and Diamonds, a one-off. I was always surprised crowds reached the level they once did and, to be honest, it's almost as surprising that attendances are as high as they are now.
