Port Vale have not had much joy recently, winning only one of the last eight matches, losing their manager and for the second time this season, coming up against a Torquay side on a high and bang in form! ;D Going back to that game last August, it was when our league record of not conceding was set after they scored in the second half. However, Port Vale were on a high themselves at the start of the season, winning the next six games on the spin to lead the division by some distance! However, they have slowly lost ground over the season slipping first from the top three and now recently out of the play off positions altogether which for a big club would represent another poor season. So, Port Vale will be looking for a win to get back into contention and put their recent poor run behind them but with a goal difference of only 3, (compared to ours of 23 ;D) this will be that little bit harder and I feel that a Torquay win would end their play off hopes! On the goal scoring front, Rotherham have recently recalled on loan striker Tom Pope. The two Richards are their top scorers with 19 and 11 apiece with Justin Richards getting the nod for Pope's place. As for Torquay, this is the second and last game of Stanley's suspension and another win will negate the effects of this quite nicely. After a commanding performance against Bradford it would be very hard for Bucks to change the side. Tomlin did go off with an injured hamstring and if he is not 100% fit then Kee or Murray will be ready to step into the breach with maybe Kee currently more deserving of a start. Again, a very important match and with the form guide pointing to wins for our rivals this week, a good result may be needed just to maintain our position. It is our last Saturday home league match of the season and an ideal opportunity to buy a Chesterfield ticket so hopefully a bumper crowd will turn out for this last promotion push.

Just a quick update: According to the Herald, Tomlin is having a scan on his hamstring today. He is participating in light training but will only be considered for this match if there is no tear. Port Vale reserves lost 1-0 against Bradford yesterday and their assistant manager has indicated that some of the fringe players may get a start. There is also a club statement investigating an incident involving a number of the first team which will be dealt with internally.... Not a very happy club.

Not a very happy club. And some nasty supporters to boot (pun intended)! The VLF are what there called and their own supporters recommend that you steer well clear of them. This is exactly the type of morons that would take one look at what was our `Ultras`and want a fight, simply because of the name. You`ll be able to spot them from a distance as they will be loud and chav-like, dragging their knuckles as they go! These are the idiots that racially abused one of their own players, who is incedently going to sue their club!

Further good news in that Tomlin's scan has revealed no tear in his hanstring so just a pull and he may be fit for Saturday.
Port Vale have already sold 600 tickets so looking like a 3000+ crowd this weekend?

You would have thought it would be more like 4000 - looking forward to it - although no doubt won't be able to get a ticket for Chesterfield game.

On paper this would have to go down as a straight forward home win.We are on a good run, Port Vale are on a terrible run and the internal politics ensures the club is a like a rudderless ship at the moment. A defeat for Vale would most certainly rule them out of the play offs once and for all?
So it has all the hallmarks of an easy/good afternoon up at Plainmoor this afternoon, however isn't this just the sort of game that trips us up?
I'd be surprised if both teams weren't a bit nervous at the start. After all its a big game for us as well particularly as we get near the sphincter tightening part of the season.
We are capable of scoring goals as and when we like and we are good at getting a early goal, so thats what I'd like to see early doors, a goal to settle us down, relax the players and give them to opportunity to play the sort of football that we have come to expect from them recently.
I still think that Stanley will be a big miss and look forward to getting him back next week, but Oastler and Lathrope seemed to do well last week so lets hope for much the same today.
You would hope that we get a crowd close to the 3500 mark and that should generate enough noise to get the ground rocking and help get behind the players.
3 points and hopefully a slip up from one or two of the other promotion chasing teams and it will be a good day.

went to the game at their place,we played very well that day,but the pressure is on now,for both teams,we do have a habit of going on brilliant runs and captivating the publics interest only too flatter to decieve.Lets hope that isnt the case now,we are playing very well, scoring lots of goals, and are full of confidence,2-0 to us,but a few scary moments along the way though

Port Vale have lost their influencial midfielder Loft for the remainder of the season so at least we are even in that department. Looking at their website, Vale have won 5 out of their last six games here and although I think apart from last season that run goes back quite some way to when we were cannonfodder, we are now overdue to putting that receord straight, hopefully when it now matters! It may be hype, but their website reckons that the best part of a thousand will come down for this so with a good home turn out there should be a cracking atmosphere at Plainmoor this afternoon and looking forward to this promotion 6 pointer. COYY.

I remember last year's 2-1 defeat well with Big Bad Mo ploughing a furrow as he lumbered around like an antique traction engine. Where is Mo? ;D
