It may be the day of the great Wolfie Carvery, but more importantly, it is one of our last four homes games where three points are required to sustain our promotion push.  Lincoln was the scene of our first away win way back in August and as a club with 46 points from 39 games, have done enough to stay clear of the relegation dog fight but little else. Top Scorer is loanee Ashley Grimes with 17 but with no one else yet to score more than four. They are four games without a win and perhaps this is in part explained by reason of Grimes having been out with an ankle injury picked up against Stevenage. He remains a doubt for this game but I wish him well for the remainder of the season. ;D In addition to Grimes, Lincoln have Stephen Hunt, Luke Howell and Facey out injured with Danny Hone also trying to shake off a knock in time for Saturday. This may in part explain their 6-0 lost to Rotherham and more of the same next Saturday is certainly not out of the question if we play in a similar vein to the Shrewsbury and Crewe matches! They were perhaps unlucky to lose against a stuttering Port Vale playing 4-5-1 and I can see that formation being repeated again this weekend. I think Muzzy will be the player to watch as we all know what he can do when on song.  Both Branston and Zebs are on nine yellow cards and will need to be careful against Lincoln and Bradford. Murray is back from international duty and for once it was our team able to put their feet up while the opposition has played during the week. Despite O'Kane scoring while playing in the hole I can see a 4-4-2 with Tomlin and Murray leading the line. A potential bench of Kee, Oastler, O'Kane, Stevens, LRT and Ellis is very strong, perhaps indicating as to why we are reserve league champions, ;D and gives us options all over the park. I have got a good feeling about this one but anything other than a win would leave us needing wins against both Port Vale and Wycombe in our next two home matches during the run up to Easter. |

Nothing less than 3 points and it is certainly goodbye playoffs, how critical those 2 points lost on Friday will end up being. I dont actually feel it is Port vale or Rotherham we should be looking at, Accrington are on fire at present. But Torquay being Torquay, you just know it will come down to us needing to win at Rotherham..............

Carayol hasn't scored more than four...goodness, and I had such high hopes for him!  It's good news that Grimes isn't playing, from what i've been told he's someone you don't want playing against you! Lincoln were quite close to us a month or so back and their recent lack of wins has been due to the injury to Grimes! These are the teams you have to beat in the season. Around the middle of the table with no thought of promotion or threat of relegation! Sadly though, we don't seem to beat these sort of teams...Aldershot comes to mind! On Saturday though we have to beat Lincoln if we have any ambitions of being promoted...even through the play-offs! As has been mentioned above though, it will probably go down to the last day at Rotherham...which 'aint too bad because I for one will be there!  |

3 points are a must if we want to challenge for a play-off spot. Next week we'll know were we stand, after the hearing that is.
Hopefully the Torbay public come out in large numbers for this game, we're in good form, score for fun and our recent home form is excellent. 5 wins and 2 draws in our last 7 games at Plainmoor.

Well looking forward to this one as it has the added attraction of the Wolfie Special Carvery and gives me a rare opportunity for a scenic train ride changing at Newton Abbot!
Unfortunately the only train that deigns to stop at Ivybridge that will get me to Fortress Plainmoor in time for the slices of pork leaves at 8.21am, and as for some reason they built Ivybridge Railway Station nearly in South Brent I will have to set off from home at 7.30am.
I suppose I will have time to break my walk along the seafront and have a balloon ride before being brought back down to earth as I have been many times as a Torquay supporter!
With Torquay being an upmarket resort as well I am sure there will be somewhere on the harbourside willing to rustle me up a breakfast of brioche, espresso, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
I have only been to one of the carvery events before (not the Gravybeat one!) and it was a very enjoyable day, apart of course the result as we lost 3-1. I had my lucky attire on as well so it was surprising to lose, but with promotion beckoning I am taking no chances tomorrow so will swop my yellow shirt and blue Torquay United tie from the Macclesfield game for a blue shirt and yellow Torquay United tie.
Should do the trick!
My prediction is for Branston to introduce Carayol to the advertising boards within the first few minutes and for the Gulls to romp home 4-0.
Then the journey home which I seem to remember last time was trickier than the outbound journey. With a belly full of pork and beer and a contented smile on my face after a comprehensive win, at my advanced years I am highly likely to doze off at any stage, which if on the first train could see me arriving at Paddington and if on the second train would see me at Gunnislake.
Paddington is clearly the best option at at least there will be a train back! ;D

Remember well last years match when a certain classy Davide Somma scored a couple of top notch goals aginst us and they went on to win by the odd goal in five. Grimes apears to have continued the trend of a brining in a good loanie to deliver the goods and ultimately save their bacon. Hope he misses the match but Mussy will aslo want to prove a point and will be a danger. Lost their last three games and four in a row is on the cards but is it likely? They are at least pretty safe and have only pride to play for but these games can be unpredictable.
Im going for a 1-1 draw but hope for a 4-0 drubbing.

It's interesting to take a look at the rest of the League 2 fixtures today and I would wager a bet that this doesn't happen to often.
9 out of the top 10 teams are playing at home, all against teams below them (obviously).
Out of those 9, 6 are playing opposition at least 10 places below them and with the exception of Bury they all have at least 13 points more than their opponents. They say there are no easy games in football but for those 9 teams its about as easy as it can get. I wouldn't imagine to many slip ups from them anyway and that includes us.
So if it all goes to form its going to be pretty much the same table tonight as it is now, with the possible exception of Port Vale, who if lose, could be overtaken by us (we would move into a play off spot), Rotherham and Accrington.
The point I am trying to make is that 3 points today is an absolute necessity. You can pretty much guarantee most, if not all, the other teams will win which would leave us behind the pack and playing catch up (Accrington would also have a game in hand) so our destination would be out of our own hands.
However as they say the game is not played on paper its played on grass, so lets hope its not us who are beaten by the 'lesser' team.
