If anyone is free this Tuesday afternoon, then a chance to see a local derby at Plainmoor this season. There are a few players that must be woefully short of match practice and this game comes at an opportune time for them although with a small squad, some youth players will probably be starting.
Those that didn't start on Saturday are Bevan, Ellis, Rowe-Turner, Palmer, Lathrope, Stevens, Macklin, Halpin, Yeoman leaving us short of a right back and striker or central midfielder.
So a chance for Ellis to gain some confidence and get back to his usual high standards. Rowe-Turner and Macklin are the forgotten men and will be looking to impress Bucks. Yeoman and Palmer will be looking to progress further. Any match reports will be much appreciated!

I see that Bucks is giving Ellis a rest and won't be playing him in this fixture.

A 2-0 home win with goals from Spear and Palmer. Comprehensive match report on dot com but if anyone went it would be very interesting to hear your views from the game.

Well, that's a first for me having just managed to see both Exeter's first and reserve teams losing within the space of twenty-four hours. Naturally I enjoyed both occasions with today's reserve game proving to be a keenly-contested affair between two youthful line-ups. In that way it was different to some of the "training ground" games you see in this league. Thoroughly deserved victory, as the official site suggests, and good to see the two full-backs - Scott Taylor and Ryan Wilson - coming through so well. Ray Spear was effective in a forward role and - given we did not make any substitutions - it was a definite plus for the younger players to come through ninety minutes. Ed Palmer looks a decent prospect and it'll be interesting to see how his future is handled.
Although the official site says it was a 4-4-2 formation I thought we often played the variation of 4-3-3 that was often in evidence on Saturday.
A youngish Exeter side, mind you, which could have otherwise featured some of the experienced players who didn't play against Brentford. Perhaps the two clubs had a gentleman's agreement to turn it into a sort of under-21 game? The "name" in the Exeter side was Jake Thomson and, having seen him several times this season, you wonder where he's heading? Totton?

Left-back was Ryan Wilson, son of Kevin Wilson, ex-Derby, Ipswich, Chelsea, N.Ireland. Has been at Stockport as a trainee but now looks like he's with his dad as part of the academy set-up which survived the demise of Ilkeston Town.

More a case of Halpin pushing up on the left but, yes, your man Lathrope was holding with Stevens and Yeoman often taking inside forward roles. That's sounding like 4-1-2-3 at times; 4-1-3-2 at others. I'm sure we can work on this and soon progress to six- and seven-digit formations in these discussions. The ultimate, of course, is the ten-digit 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 formation..... How about this as an interim strategy? Sorry, wrong sport! Perhaps Aussie would like to add a few thoughts from what's below. How many reserve games do we have left to give it a go?

I like that last oval picture very much, Aussie Rules Football, quality game made for men to play! I would like to see pansies like Ronaldo try playing that game, they would get mashed!

Good luck to Ryan Wilson, I've been impressed with the football played by Gateshead and by their North East neighbours Grimsby on their respective visits to Plainmoor this season. The Telegraph article regarding Kevin Wilson and Ilkeston F.C was also interesting, giving column inches to views that The Guardian would never allow into print in a million years.For those wondering why the products of Broken Britain don't get to grace the Premier League in noticeable numbers, Wilson Snr lifts the lead to express views that would have rendered The Guardian readership apoplectic

Given another few minutes and Kevin Wilson would probably have been telling the Daily Telegraph that a "clip around the ear" from the local Bobby never did him any harm. People appear to like saying that whatever their age. Today's ten-year-olds will probably be making the very same observation in fifty years time. I'm sure Ilkeston FC isn't really a boot camp, run along lines of terror, where corporal punishment is an everyday occurrence. Equally, I don't believe Guardian readers instantly become apoplectic at the merest mention of "discipline". But, how ever Kevin Wilson goes about his business, Ilkeston look in pretty fine fettle at the moment. I enjoyed my visit there what with the clock tower in the corner of the ground and walk along the canal from the nearest railway station. To me Ilkeston always looks a more plausible long-term prospect than nearby Alfeton. Whether Felix regards the town as "sufficiently Derbyshire" may be a completely different matter. And isn't Ilkeston where Saul Halpin scored "that hattrick" for Derby County reserves?

I like it. Worth remembering the next time the Plymouth-Portsmouth Dockyard Derby - or even the much-missed Torquay-Brighton South Coast Derby - comes around.
