Arse Well done to those that helped clear the pitch - pavements etc are okay in town. Around 50 TUFC fans turned up to help clear the pitch along with a number of reserve and youth team players. One third of the pitch was cleared in one hour with five hours remaining to remove the rest of the snow. I understand the club received a call from the police saying if the game went ahead they would not be responding to any emergency calls that might come as a result of the game going ahead. The ref was well aware of that information and the fact no emergency cover was going to be in place, played a big part in him making the decision to call the game off.

Cheers Dave, just been speaking to some Rotherham fans in town who are finding it hard to believe the match is off but did tell me that the Police who normally travel to the away games are stuck in Exeter (poor sods) - this probally hasn't helped either.

Well at least those policemen and women who are stuck in Exeter can watch a game of football at St James'Park (not the real on). If my flight wouldn't haven been cancelled I'd have gone to watch that game.

Spare a thought for por old Stu who dug his car out, drove 150 miles to find the game had been called off. Yes it is a pity for people who made a great effort to get there (including of course the away supporters from South Yorkshire) but a sensible decision I think. Our club site says that the referee made the decision because of safety concerns and the potential condition of the pitch later in the day. The temperature has dropped noticeably in the last 30 minutes so there would have been the potential for the pitch to freeze over before the end of the game, as well as the drive home for supporters in the dark and on icy roads. Not too bad for those who live in Warbro Road I suppose!

Bitterly disappointed at this mornings ' correct' decision to postpone todays game. Correct because as soon as the police made contact with the club the referee had no option other than to call it off without having to inspect the pitch. I am convinced that, especially at the rate we were going, the snow would have been cleared from the pitch and offered to the referee in very good time for a 12.00pm inspection and confident that it would have been passed fit for play. Yes, there would have been a sparse crowd and yes, supporters like Stefano - moat frozen over and Manor house cut off from the rest of the world - would have been unable to make it to the ground but those able to attend would have seen a game of football. Disappointed because the emergency services decide that they would be unable to respond to emergency calls caused by events at Plainmoor yet at St James Park, Exeter, they could! This is very inconsistent and to rub salt into the wound -not the roads- while traveling back to Newton Abbot, I passed a police car, an ambulance and a paramedic car, no more that 200 yards from the ground on a shout. Don't worry, not all emergency vehicles are in Exeter today.

The good people that brought our club back from the brink must wonder whether it was all worth it at times.......

I could have got there but I did decide early this morning that I was not going to. One consideration was that I didn't think the game would be played so did not want to get there and find there was no game, and as it has turned out that proved correct. The main consideration though was whether it would be responsible to put myself on the road. Even though the sun has been shining since this morning there is still a few inches of snow on the road outside and the temperature is now dropping (if the game was being played there would still be 35 minutes to go) so there will be icy conditions developing now that the sun has gone to bed. As much as I like football it is not an essential journey and although I am comfortable driving in the snow after my years working in the alps it's the other idiots you have to watch out for!! ;D

I have several good mates in the local Police force so I'm not having a go at the boys in blue. What gets my goat is that it's probably some jobsworth, health and safety, self imprtant civil servant type that has knackered this game. To say they're not going to respond to emergency calls is taking the piss and an insult to the honest football fans of TUFC and Rotherham. It's PLAINMOOR not Heysel FFS!!! This game would have been attended by decent folk not thugs. The 2 sets of fans would have been in a friendly atmosphere and enjoying the game.
If it's a weather decision call it as so. But really, this call off is just a joke!

Sounds like the Grecians have been rewarded for their efforts .... 5-1 up Wednesday closed early on a Saturday. I'll spare you the details but watch out for the goal that changed the game.

Today was the day for my daughter to come home from uni for xmas. The Mrs and I decided to have a day in Winchester yesterday and stay the night at Newbury so that we could get back to Torquay before 3 . After an excellent breakfast (I won't start that one off again, but with the welcome addition of potato farls! ), we found the car park deep in snow. My fear at getting stranded turned to panic when I heard that the game was ON. I could be stuck somewhere on the M4/M5 at kick-off time! My daughter has a friend at uni from Chudleigh and we learned her parents could not get out from there, so we offered her a lift back. The roundabout and slip road on to the M4 had my car slipping and sliding all over the place. The two junction stretch of motorway was horribly icy and as we slithered slowly towards Reading my chances of being home for 3 seemed zero and chances of getting back to Devon today at all in the balance. Reading itself was dodgy with the snow settling quite deep, but we crawled out to the M4 and for some reason the Westbound wasn't anywhere near as icy as the Eastbound. We got back to Newbury far quicker than it had taken is to come from there and West of Newbury was no problem at all. Friend's Dad managed to get to Exeter Services to meet us to take her home and we managed to get back home before three after all - not that it mattered by now. Only trouble is that if you get two women in the house they will end up watching that dancing rubbish!
