Plaudits go to the Bevanator who deserves the MOTM award for the outstanding triple save. One from the direct free kick, one from the follow up and one to then claw a looping header away. Actually, I thought the third was the rebound from his own second save but as I had my hands over my eyes at that precise point I'll take your word as reality! ;D Haha! I think I was doing the same.

How did Danny do? Worth a starting place or impact sub? Gave them a fair bit to worry about, in my opinion. The pitch was very wide (seriously, a good couple of metres wider than Plainmoor), and with Danny and Wayno spreading out, he had alot of space to run. He worked well with Wroe and Nicho, although their triangle passing was sometimes too much, and they played each other into trouble. But yeah, on more than one occasion he had 3/4 defenders on him, and couldn't really squeeze a shot in. I'd say rest him against Bournemouth, but he should start against Southend, injury permitting, of course.

IF warwickgull thought that several players played 'not to their best', what is wrong with him putting that? Or do we have to have passed some FIFA Coaching course now before posting?

It's a bit different saying "not to their best" and then giving players ratings of 5 and then saying that they weren't interested, especially as we've just beaten one of the bigger teams in the division.

O'Kane not only has awareness, but has the skill and touch to make use of it. Some of the cameo appearances point to a very bright future - and I think that is partly because of his enthusiasm and attitude on the pitch.
I always use the "Mark Platts" test to weigh-up the chances of success when a young player with real skill arrives from a Premiership club. Do they have the drive to put their abilities to use and are prepared to learn, or do they not feel that they should be playing at this level and think they know it all? I'd put EO'K firmly into the bracket that want to succeed and will put the effort in to ensure his talents are not wasted.
We have the opportunity of the regular reserve games against teams with some established players and youngsters pushing for first team places - this is such a massive boost to players like Eunan in progressing to our first team and I think when he does feature he will be all the better for it.
In terms of him starting the next match, I think Stevens has made a very good start to the season and I don't see him being dropped even if he didn't feature as prominently at PV yesterday.

I agree with chelston. Think Warwick's marks were harsh and inaccurate from my perspective, but if that's how he saw it, what's he supposed to do - say the opposite to what he thinks? I'm sure everyone else is capable of reading all the reports and forming their own view of the consensus.

as soon as zebroski made it 2-0 the match was won in my opinion,ok they scored a corker, but generally,we werent over worked by them,we did what we had to do,without ever looking out-played.We have nothing to worry us in this division but our own complacency, which PB will keep an eye on.As long as we dont sell lock stock and barrel, and remain injury free,we have every chance of having a fantastic season. Not often we can say that,so i am happy to go with the flow.We will have the odd blip, all teams do,but things are looking rosey at present

warwickgull most on here are happy just to enter into proper debate without the need to rubbish others views, sadly some still don't understand they cause harm to the TFF and make others feel its not worth posting their views or wonder why they did bother in the first place. Once again thanks for your report and I hope you stick around and enjoy entering debate with those who understand the proper meaning of the word. Dave Now back to discussing the match on this a match thread. ;D But if he is going to judge the team as harshly and critically in future, I wonder what intrinsic value or benefit his report will offer to this site. Wonder away! You speak on behalf of the site do you? Maybe all match reports should go through you prior to being posted - then you can judge their intrinsic value on behalf of the rest us. Can only speak for myself, but Warwick Gull's opinion is about as valuable as yours.........other than your last paragraph which is a pile of old pony. Maybe posters can also provide details of their own sporting ability and experience so that we can put their views into context. I'll always find differing opinions of games I have been unable to get to of value - and have always found it interesting how different fans see games which I have witnessed. At times I have wondered if we were watching the same games, but none of us own the truth. There are some on this site who, in my opinion, take themselves far too seriously and seem to struggle to differentiate between FACT and OPINION.

But if he is going to judge the team as harshly and critically in future, I wonder what intrinsic value or benefit his report will offer to this site. And that is my humble and subjective opinion! What a totally ridiculous thing to say Rags, what do we want a forum with a good selection of viewpoints or just let one or two on here only be allowed to express their views so no others can have a viewpoint of their own. My own match report for the Bradford game was the most negative of all of them and I said I felt Mark Ellis was in fear of being dropped if he carried on making so many mistakes, but that was just how I saw it and others saw it differently. As long as views are given honestly and not just posted to cause trouble or have a go at other members then they are all always welcome even if they come across as being negative. The day I start having to judge if a match report written by someone who was at the match and was his own views and take on the game has any value to the TFF, then I'll close it down as it would have failed to do what its meant to be doing. All VIEWS are welcome and valid if they are genuine views and its up to others to use the power of DEBATE only to question those views and if its done in the correct way debate should happen the poster may take on board the views of others and reconsider the views they held. Carlisle looked out of sorts, gave nothing going forward, kept losing the ball in the second half and his crossing was weak. Perhaps a place in the starting 11 has come a little early. 5
Stevens looked threatening but hes a winger and its all about end product. His end product was to either lose the ball or not get a cross of any substance into the box. 5
Benyon was just poor for me, maybe playing upfront on his tod limited the amount of chasing down he could do in the 2nd half, but compared to the amount of work Zeb got through he was a passenger. 5
I dont want to get away from the fact the we have come away with a great result from one of the fancied sides, but lets get real they were poor with no width or real pace, and after the first 30 minns when we were superb we seemed to get very sloppy and invite a poor side back into the game. We were lucky in the end not to conceed a 2nd goal.
On bbc Stoke after, Micky Adams praised us for being organised and thats what we were. He also slated his players and said if he could he would drop all 11 of them for the next game.
I have given praise where it was due throughout the team and also given poor ratings where i saw fit. If some want to convince themselves it was a great performance full of brilliant displays thats up to you. As i said i did the report in 5 minns flat when I got home, if some want to take those marks out of 10 and start tallying them up and dividing them etc to mock my opinion of the game thats pretty sad.

Maybe those who went to the game should listen to the views Dave Thomas gave after the game, he talked about sloppy passing and Danny Stevens always making the wrong decisions and Grits not holding the ball up and giving it away far to cheaply.
You see at the end it all comes down to opinions and each and everyone of us will see things through our own eyes and base of viewpoints on just how we saw it.

I'm having a bit of trouble reading/posting from my phone today but I did want to add another thing about Warwickgulls comments.
I thought his report was an accurate take on what I saw. Benyon , Carlisle & Stevens WERE average, that is not a criticism it's an observation. I also agree that Benyon did not do his usual chasing everything down.
We can't expect ALL the players to be outstanding in EVERY game, although zebs has been. It was a good team performance, but some players were only average, whilst others were outstanding. We won because zebs ran them ragged for 25 mins & Bevan, Ellis & Branston were awesome for the last hour. We defended like our lives depended on it. Just because we won it doesn't automatically mean EVERYONE played out of their skin. Again an observation not a criticism.
It was a fantastically enjoyable day, even though it was nervy for long periods.
The fact that we won when some players were not at their best bodes well for the rest of the season. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying they were bad, but if we can win away at a place like Port Vale when not everyone was on top of their game & still put in a really good team performance then I will take that every time.
It's about the teams overall performance for me and yesterday that was good. Certainly good enough to deserve the 3 points.

Perhaps your 6s are equivilant to my 5s who cares. Newspaper player ratings differ by 1 or 2 points regularly in their match write ups so why not on here? Why are some on here so worked up about marks out of 10? If it makes you all happy I will change the 5s to friggin 6sss

So why did MY honest view of Warwickgull's match report get YOU jumping up and down then Dave? I didn't use it to make derogatory remarks about his appearance for instance did I................is that the correct way to debate? Not that it bothers me mind you, I'm fast approaching 60, played football until I was 50 and cycled competitively up to my fortieth year. I've no real problem being a fat old bastard at my age so............... Perhaps (and I stress, perhaps) people should refrain from marking players of whom they know little of their instructed role in a game, their state of fitness or their particular state of mind going into a game. As someone said to me recently, half the feigned shock/horror to my posts come because of who it was posted them rather than what I posted. I never stated that anyone should not report their view of a game, I merely questioned their awareness of the full circumstances of setting out to achieve such a result in a highly competitive environment. Surely my doing so, falls into the category of holding a differing viewpoint; but unlike some people being able to hold that differing view without caving in to the fact that others feel differently and coming over all hurt or in need of having my hand held; I just get on with it.

I started to hate them when Championship Manager got more difficult. I used to like them when I was younger and more stupid but now I prefer to judge players solely on the context on the game, the opposition and a number of other factors that cannot be summed up by a single number. I think Port Vale are decent team who didn't turn up for the first 30 minutes. They had a good 15 minutes before half time and then we controlled the 2nd half apart from a few chances. It's worth noting that the Bevan triple save was from a free kick given by that prat of a of Referee for absolutely nothing. To satisfy Svenzo I'd like to say that a) you're right that Benyon, Carlisle and Stevens didn't have their best games in a yellow jersey, b) but it's my opinion that giving low player ratings and saying Benyon didn't look interested is a bit harsh.
