I am a great lover of Short Oval Car Racing and last Monday I went to watch some at Smeatharpe Stadium which is between Honiton and Taunton not far from Dunkeswell Airfield.
Once a year they hold a meeting called `Crasherama` which means exactly what it says.
They try to wreck each right from the start and pile in to each other.
Not a Demolition Derby where the winner is the last one running, this takes place at end of meeting.
There was also some Stock Car(no Bill Batten i`m afraid Dave) and Mini Stock racing.
Some pictures before the Action Starts.
Some old Rovers. Will make Classic Car enthusiasts unhappy, but they can`t last fore ever,so what a better way to go than out in style.
A few Jags present and I believe some Nissan's or Toyota's.
Lexus.
Plenty of Volvo's.
Yank Tank.Usually get a good turn out of these, but the only one on this day.
The action begins(I hope i`ve done these videos correctly).
Click on the link to view.
You can view all clips on this link, but I will do a direct link for some of them.
The aftermath.
It amazes me that there are hardly any injuries to the drivers.
More Action.
More aftermath.
A little bit of Stock Car action, not a great turn out but still some good racing.
The final was won by Top Stock Car Driver(Red Top) Neil Hooper, but the star of the day was a 16 year from Wisbech,Cambridgeshire called Ollie Skeels who is a White Top(Lowest grade),he was very quick and won his heat and the Grand National.A star for the future.
The Grand National is always the last Stock Car race, the winner of the final starts at the front of the grid a lap behind and gains double national points if he finishes in a scoring place.
The Mini Stocks are for 11-16 year olds and the star of the day was Ollies younger brother.
There is meeting tomorrow, but can`t make it.
Will list some more pics and some action when I go again.
If you want it of course.
