OK, maybe I'm just getting a grumpy Old git, who knows, but Is there any need to keep putting the F word In songs sung at football matches.
Chipstead had 50 fans In the ground, yet that crowd Of young ones who stand On the popside by the halfway line, felt the need to keep singing who the f***ing hell are you.I just think there Is not need for this, there are ladies and children who have to hear this and Its time someone stood up and got It stopped.
Its not funny. or In good taste, sing songs and cheer on the team, but lets stop the really bad Language that serves no propose at all.
Rant Over

Sounds a bit moronic. Now in the good old days you`d take a tune like "Hey jude" or that cracker from Bee Bumble or even maybe "car wash" and turn it into a nice little terrace ditty.

Its not just the swearing its the taunting of the away fans. Why cant we sing songs supporting our team, rather than trying to get one over on the opposition fans. The game had barely started when those chants began.

Well the band of old gits grows ever bigger.
In my youth there was a natural progression in life.
cars -You started out with a clapped out banger and as you earnt more so the cars improved. Now we see acne injected engines racing in circuits around town.
accomodation - home- bedsit- dingy flat- shared house- 2 bed terraced house - semi etc. Up till the credit crunch we see young upstarts bearly out of nappies in apartments overlooking converted docklands.
swearing - although you knew all the words some like the the "F" word were considered taboo. now it seems every other film has to include it and tv programmes before 9pm deem it ok for general use.
Has the loss of this natural heirachy & lowering of standards such as the acceptance of swearing led to the loss of respect for others and a cheapening of life?
Crikey that sounds heavy... time for a brandy & lovage.
Hope you havn`t given up the will to live after reading this. As I hope to see some of you at the Mansfield game. I`ll be the one standing on a soap box all on my own.

This is something I have regularly complained about, it's no coincidence that the songs/chants that more people join in with are the ones without the pointless profanities!
Unfortunately the vocabulary of some people only lends itself to this sort of moronic rubbish.
There is zero originality in the singing at Plainmoor these days. We get a corner and it's "Come on you Yellows", have an attempt on goal and it's "United, United". Other than that you get constant repetitions of "Yellow Army" and "Give us a T...".
Whilst sometimes any noise at all would be appreciated I am sure we had a much larger roster of songs in seasons past.

Jerry we did have so many more songs we always sang, so what has happened to them. You know maybe Its because as we have got older, we do not sing much ourselves. So now It Is mainly the young ones, most who may never have even heard what we sang, so Is the answer for the old ones to get in early, take the spot where the kids normally stand and do the songs from yesteryear. Well I'm up for It.

Could also be that a lot of chants originate from songs of the day.
We were lucky to grow up with songs that had words or tunes you could hear and repeat. Unlike this r & b stuff that is filled with aggression and sexual innuendo but few memorable choruses.

Certainly NOT an age thing - can't STAND the chants with swearing in them - sounds pathetic - especially when we are live on the TV. It just puts us in a bad light.
I am not trying to adopt the moral high ground, I get very emotional at football matches, and the odd swear word does come out - but not shouted out by any means.....unless I am watching us on the TV of course!! However, chants with swear words in it do NOTHING to rid the often bad image that English football fans have. Swearing and violence are the two pictures that people have of us football fans, and no matter how hard the majority of us "normal" fans try we just cannot shake off the image due to a few minority idiots.
Take the Sunderland/Newcastle match today - it SHOULD be remembered for the fact that Sunderland have beaten Newcastle at home for the first time since 2000, and fans should be out there enjoying the success. Unfortunately, due to a minority of morons the game will be remembered for the fights after the game, and the verbal nonsense given the Shay Given during the game by the two idiots that ran onto the pitch.
Will get off my soapbox in a minute - but back to the chanting - what really needs to happen is when these morons start their pathetic chanting filled with expletives, the rest of the crowd need to fire up with a chant of their own to drown them out - eventually they will get the message!!
End of rant!!

Just how true Is that statement?
One Of my customers Is a power tool supply shop that Is In a small parade Of shops on a housing estate In Yeovil. Its a family business run by the father and his wife and son both work in the shop.
The son Is about 30 years old, not married and lives the bachelor lifestyle, enjoying smart cars and able to afford what ever he wants.Tom and I have lots Of banter about football fans and he really has It In his head that all football fans are nothing but trouble.
Mind you he belongs to the young farmers, so I'm quick to point out to him, the problems they have caused when they have been In the bay.
The problem Is he has never been to a match ever and he really believes that by going to one, he runs the risk Of getting beat up.These fears were very real and not part Of any banter we were having and I even offered to go up on a Saturday and go with him to a yeovil game, so he could see for himself, that 99.9% Of the time,at any game he would be safe and not at risk Of getting beat UP.
Tom has declined my Offer and I told him that he really could not make remarks about the type Of people he thought footballs were, without really going to a match and seeing for himself.
Unless he ever does go to a match(and I would hope It was a trouble free game) he will just keep this picture he has In his head Of football fans being loud, rude and violent and as we know there are some who would fit that description, but most Of us are decent people, who just love the game Of football.
