Do members have any second or other teams they support or follow? Is having a 'soft spot' for another team the same thing as having a second team? Is it possible to support two or more teams equally?
I have always been puzzled by the fans who cheer loudly for Manchester United or Liverpool on the big screen in Boots and Laces only to remain as quiet as mice on the Popular Side. I'm always curious about the cheers and grimaces which greet the reading out of the half-time scores. Then there's the strange breed of men who seem to have about three or four teams they follow, suspicious characters in my book, a bit like those men who can never give a straight answer to where they're from. Maybe they just have bigger hearts than the rest of us.
I'll kick things off. I had a soft spot for Aston Villa up to the age of about 11. This has faded almost completely, al though I retain some affection for Villa Park. I have some teams whose 'results I look out for'. This tends to change from season to season, but I do like to hear how AFC Wimbledon/MK Dons get on (though for opposite reasons!)

I had a soft spot for Forest in the Clough era but those feelings have long gone. I did go and see Portsmouth in the old third division when I briefly lived up there and sort of tepidly still follow them. Of course, FA Cup glory and a decent spell in the premiership was too good to be true for even a club I remotely support and back down to earth with a bang I'm afraid. ;D

It's always been Wolverhampton Wanderers for me although I have no connection at all with that area. I don't feel the same way as I do about Torquay United but I have always looked out for their results even when they were down with us in the bottom division. It goes back to the late 1950's/early 1960's when I was just getting interested in football. There was hardly any shown on tv in those days but my early memories are flickering images of the Wolves under floodlights playing friendly games against teams from Moscow and also their 1960 FA Cup win. There was something glamorous about their colours as well, Gold and Black, even though our tv was of course in black and white. Many years later I remember my first visit to Molyneux and getting the same sense of excitement I get when entering Plainmoor. I actually followed the Wolves results before I even knew there was a team at Torquay, but having discovered Plainmoor the Gulls became my true love, but like a first girlfriend the Wolves have always managed to hold a place in my affections!

Do members have any second or other teams they support or follow? Torquay United reserves ;D ;D Third Team Torquay United youth In all seriousness, I'd rather go and watch these, and I have done, than any other 'second' team.

Never until I moved to my most recent locale - but now I am only 10 minutes away from Hampton & Richmond, I follow them pretty closely, in fact probably watching more games there than TUFC this season (merely because of logistics, ease of travel).
I might even buy myself an HRBFC season ticket next year to go along with my TUFC membership, if the very under-subscribed system continues.
Cracking little family club...just like my No 1!!

I havent got any English second teams but have a few foriegn ones from travelling and ex-girlfriends!!
Scotland: Cowdenbeath- Me and my brother (The Knight) put all the names in a hat and thats who I got. I would love to watch a game at Central Park one day.
Poland: Radomiak Radom- An ex came from here, they play in the Polish 3rd division Lodz and Warsaw region.
Hungary: Ferencvárosi TC- I watched a game whilst on a Eastern Europe lads tour last year. I took some photos but got drunk with the locals and my fone "disapeared"!!
Croatia: Dianmo Zagreb- Watched a game whist on tour at the national stadium. The match was a league cup game and entry was free!!

My second teams have changed to reflect wherever I'm living at the time. I followed Cardiff City for 2 or 3 seasons when I lived in South Wales and then as I moved closer to London moved on to Basingstoke Town, Aldershot and Millwall. Once I got to Germany I started following FC Augsburg and FC Memmingen who are the 2 closest teams to me. I also look out for all the Berlin team results although I'm not entirely sure why - just a very interesting place. It's interesting that once I move on from a place I tend to also move on from the second team I've adopted. Cardiff were really struggling when I was there but their recent success has given me no particular enjoyment. I do still look out for Millwall's results since I usually try and get to a game if I'm on a business trip and staying in the Docklands area.

As a young kid I was a typical Glory Hunter and mad about Leeds United. Showing my age but that was in the days when teams fielded the same players week after week barring injury and I can still reel off the United team of Sprake, Reaney, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles & Gray with Madely on the bench! Had their names written by their slots in the Subbuteo team box - did anyone else do that?!
Then at about the age of 14 I decided that supporting an all conquering team was boring and uncool and I changed my allegiance to Newcastle United after witnessing a tremendous Malcolm McDonald display on The Big Match.
Have no interest in either Leeds or Newcastle now but my 'other' teams are Sheffield United who I started following when at University and West Brom who I adopted when I moved from Sheffield to Dudley for 3 years. Don't follow either very closely but always look for their results. Will watch if they are on the telly and have seen them on rare occasions when playing 'locally' at Argyle or Ashton Gate over the years (if The Gulls aren't at home, of course!).
I also keep an eye out for Stirling Albion as I have family there and have seen them a few times!
