Even though I was in the RAF I do not like flying. I did not renew my passport when it ran out 4 years ago but have had to as the little ones want to go and see Mickey Mouse in Orlando next year. I managed to avoid a trip to China and Taiwan with work last year to assess a new supplier but will have to go this year. A hard slog leaving on a Saturday and getting back 5 days later. no chance of sight seeing, just factories and eating dodgy food. Now i was going to Frankfurt in April. i thought great, as i could see a game perhaps but no. the meetings were set for a hotel at the airport It was going to be a mad dash to get back and down for Port Vale game but I could just about do it. Today, all change. they ahve moved the meeting to Bremen which means flying to Amsterdam . no chance of a game and struggle to get back in time but I'll try. I could always stop off for coffee and a chat to the friendly girls in the windows

Stop complaining Stuart....enjoy! I make that: burgers in Orlando, noodles and dumplings in Taiwan, sausages in Bremen and a spliff in Amsterdam to cap it all off. If you do make it to the Port Vale game I'd consider that a pretty good year in all honesty

Why would you want the money problems, language problems, being ripped off etc etc??

Doesn't mean there isn't a huge amount to be seen and sampled beyond our shores though. Makes coming home all the sweeter too...unless its raining when you land (which, let's be honest, it probably will be )

A hard slog leaving on a Saturday and getting back 5 days later. no chance of sight seeing, just factories and eating dodgy food. I've been to China many times and I have to say that it does not matter how many times I go, I always consider it an absolute privilege to be there. I've never had any time for official sightseeing since I've only been there on business trips with a very hectic schedule but anyway I regard official sightseeing as over-rated. For me, the really worthwhile sightseeing is the little glimpses of local life you get from the back of a cab or a hotel window. I also love the food in China and in the weeks before I first went there I used chopsticks every day until I was 100% proficient with them - I still do that at least twice per week so that I'm ready for the next visit. It's also important to know the local customs so that you don't cause any offense. One word of warning - be prepared for the evening phone calls in your hotel room - it's a real annoyance if the staff pass your details as a likely prospect to the local working girls.
