Thanks jonnyfive for posting the other day who the man I saw sat on an inflatable chair on the path near Livermead, waving away like mad is. As I said I only saw him for the first time a couple of home Saturday games ago on the way home from the match and I’m now wondering where I have been for the last year.
It does sound that he really is a bit of a mystery man and no one really knows anything about him. I do find that a bit strange as he has to live somewhere and one would imagine he lives in the Bay or nearby.
I suppose there is a natural fascination with the man and I’m sure most people would really love to know just who he is and his life history. I know it has got me wondering and then the thought came to me, maybe its best we don’t know and we just enjoy having him sat there waving to us all as we drive past him.
I’m not suggesting there might be something we found out that would horrify us, but we could just all end up a bit disappointed if there was nothing magical or special we learned about him.
Yes maybe the real magic is simply not knowing anything and just let our imaginations run away with us.
When he was asked why he does what he does he replied ‘Because I want to spread some happiness across Torbay, to give people that smile that we’ve all got inside of us, but don’t always use’.
Well that works for me and he sure made me smile for a change on both the occasions I have seem him, he somehow makes you feel a bit special getting a wave from him and you can’t stop yourself from waving back.
Two pictures I have found of the famous Moses Peters the waving man
