I'm sure that given the current rules he should have been sent off. After all when you see the punishments dished out for taking your shirt off during a goal celebration or for not hearing the referees whistle then a red card in this case is no doubt abiding by the letter of the law.
I saw the clip for the first time on a news programme last night. Quite frankly it was embarrassing. The Stewards walked on but couldn't get near the bloke. He was certainly a fast mover & it looked as though it would go on all night.
Personally I think the players were quite restrained in allowing this idiot to run amongst them & hold up their game for so long.
But it's quite in keeping with the deliberate policy that's changed Britain so much in recent decades. If you try to defend your property you could well be the one who ends up in Court for repelling a burglar. If you deal with an aggressor who is making peoples lives a misery it will be you who ends up in Court as Zebs will confirm. If you try to discipline your own child by giving them a smack you could well face criminal charges. If you apprehend a nutter who has illegally invaded the pitch during a match it is you who will find yourself being punished.
It is now only the 'authorities' who can take any type of corrective action or issue any form of punishment. This was just one more example of 21st Century Britain.

The Brian Clough method worked well and it is time we all took direct action!!
