September 1964 and Tony Boyce has become chairman of Torquay United. Note the tribute from the supporters' club to outgoing chairman Arthur Milner and reference to the close links the club enjoyed with Birmingham City during his time at the helm.
See too the "pen portrait" of Derek Panter who made one of his few Manchester City first-team appearances in a League Cup semi-final. Throwing the kids in for the League Cup? Sounds familiar and a reflection of how that particular competition seems to have come full-circle in the way it is approached by many clubs.
And the bit about Panter reminds me of a story about a certain ex-Rangers player who, when playing for Dunfermline was asked about his ambitions (and I paraphrase): "well, my ambition was to play for Rangers so I've now achieved my main goal in football". Next stop Torquay after that comment, Mr Graham....
