This was Oxford United's first season in the Football League, replacing Accrington Stanley who had resigned from the Football League in March 1962. What happened to "the wing half of promise" a certain Ron Atkinson ? I have seen footage on Youtube of Big Ron playing against Arsenal at Highbury in the FA Cup, during the Big Freeze early in 1963, and almost scoring. Interesting to note how many players during the 1940s, 50s and early part of the 60s had their careers disrupted by National Service, what would todays' players make of that ? The programmes are a superb social history source
