I moved to devon when i was 6 though so my memories of it are pretty vivid. My parents still keep in touch with a few people from the area though.

I used to go along Valley Rd to get to The Sun at Lemsford.
Merse, did you know Nick Faldo? He was a keen member of Welwyn Wheelers in his teens. In your lanterne rouge role he might have flashed past you occasionally!

Faldo is only five years younger than me and as I didn't take up the sport until I was in my late thirties I was a "vet" from the beginning..............by the time I had got a rudimentary grasp of the techniques of what is an incredibly demanding and exhilarating sport; I was old enough to need a vet!

Christ, I'd rather watch a contest to see who could stick as many stamps on an envelope over a period of a month than golf. I'd even rather watch horse racing... at least that's over in a couple of minutes. Not my thing, I'm afraid - tis like listening to paint dry. Must go now, I'm off fly fishing. ;D

I admit participation is far far better than watching as in many sports but my two "disciplines" were Keirin and Devil Take The Hindmost in which there are peletons, rather than head to head. Keirin involves a race for the line (and thus gain points) "on release" from the pacing "Derny Cycle" and so requires one to manoeuvre into position without expending too much energy, whilst "Devil" is the exact opposite in that every designated lap (and as the race progresses) then every lap; the last rider is eliminated until a head to head is achieved. I'll leave you to the paint Rattz........... [/quote]
