I'm sure many of us have been following the tumultuous events in Egypt this week. All of us moan about things from time to time, but events elsewhere can remind us how fortunate we are. What incredible, inspirational and humbling scenes there were in Cairo and Egypt today. This is the moment when Egypt's Vice President announced the end of Hosni Mobarak's 30 year dictatorship this afternoon: www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2011/feb/11/egypt-hosni-mubarak-resigns

I have been following the events during the day on the radio since this all started. I won't pretend that I fully understand all the political side of things in Egypt, because I don't, but I have felt these people have been brilliant the way they have gone about making the changes that seem very necessary in that country.
I'm not sure you would ever see the people in the UK stand side by side the way they did and stick so firmly to their task. I hope as a result of their actions, they can in time enjoy a much better life than they have had to date.

The way they have stood together and achieved what they have through solidarity and non-violent means has been incredible. I just hope they are able to see their task through and secure the democratic freedoms they aspire to.

It sadly was not without the cost of many lives and for those lost ones its even more important they did not die in vein. The eyes of the world watching the events have I felt made the outcome better than it could have been.
I listened to all the arguments about if the UK should get involved, I'm glad we have let the people do this themselves as it will now be their victory they thought for and won.
