Buckland made their longest journey of the season into deepest Cornwall, the journey took exactly 2 hours from door to door.
The players and some of the fans went on the train, but we decided to go by road.
We arrived at Penlee park at about 2.00 and tried to go and find some food, Colin tried to get a pasty but for some unknown reason Penzance football club dont sell pasties.
Penlee Park is a nice old ground with a grandstand that runs the length of the pitch, the ground is run down and could do with some TLC but the natives were very friendly.
Buckland kicked off against the elements as there was a strong blustery wind blowing down the length of the pitch.
the play was fairly even with the home keeper making one good save from Danny Lewis who hit a shot on the volley from the edge of the box, the keeper was the same keeper who had played at homers who had let in eight in the home fixture earlier in the season but it was obvious we were not going to score that many away.
Penzance took the lead on 30 minutes when a free kick was floated into the box where a forward let the ball glance off his head,
which then hit the post another magpies player continued to follow the ball in and easily put the loose ball away.
Buckland new they would have to up their game in the second half to get anything out of this game, and they did with a goal from a corner from club captain Ben Williamson, the corner was taken by SI Revell who lofted the ball to the far post where Willo headed the ball into the net 1-1
Buckland took the lead when a strike from Lynch back across the keeper went inside the far post giving the keeper no chance.
this was on 59 minutes.
Penzance were reduced to 10 men when a midfielder tried to bring down Moser this was his second yellow and off he went for a early shower. Buckland continued to press forward to make their numerical advantage tell but could not score until the 87 minute when Lynch got his second goal a superb header that looped over the keeper and into the net 3-1 this sent the volatile Buckland supporters mad and the new the 3 pts were ours,
I say volatile as this is what we were called by the Penryn press in mid week!!!
Buckland saw out time and the long journey lay ahead but in the knowledge that we had got 3pts at Penzance for the first time and we are still sitting very nicely at the top of the tree.
well done to the Buckland players and to the dedicated Bucks followers who had made the long journey West.
Programme 9.5 /10 excellent second best in the league
