I took the chance on Saturday to have a peak at some of the fabulous old (pre WW1) TUFC-related photos on the wall between No 10s and The Gulls Nest - some clearly annotated and others not. I was very interested to see a Torquay United team picture from the 1911/12 season - donated by the family of the goalkeeper. Some might be surprised that there was a United in that season as the commonly-accepted history is that United became Town in 1910 and reverted to United in 1921. An alternative history is that in 1910 Torquay United moved from Barton Road to Daddyhole Plain and dropped down a division to the second division of the Torquay and District League where their opponents included the Junior/3rd team of the newly-created Torquay Town FC. What with various Babbacombe / Ellacombe /Torquay Public College roots I can come up with at least ten different formation paths for Torquay United. I'm happy to stick to the Luscombe path of TUFC-TTFC-TUFC - as long as we don't stick to his 1898 start date. Only the South Devon League would KNOWINGLY lay claim to a completely false formation date.

The plot thickens but I think we've managed to find a site for the new stadium - Daddyhole Plain! Ticks the heritage box; perfect for the sixteen-storey Hilton; one or two health and safety considerations on the seaward side.
