A great piece in the Herald Express about Bert Mitchell who has been attending matches at Plainmoor for 75 years. Well done Bert

A really lovely chap is Bert........congratulations to him on a remarkable 75 years supporting the gulls - i'm sure we'd all love to match that achievement!
Played in umpteen games with Bert umpiring, always has a smile and a kind word....even when he's giving you out!
Think the club could maybe do something for a fan of such long service and devotion.....

By chance I was chatting to Dad over the weekend about how he used to come and watch Torquay with me in my younger days.
He recalls going to Plainmoor in 1934, although only five years old, and being entertained in the boardroom before sitting in the Directors Box. He went with my Grandfather, who was a keen follower for some years, and my Father seems to think they went as guests of a Mr Hayes.
I will be doing some research to find out who 'Mr Hayes' might be.
Obviously this is no comparison to Bert Mitchell but it was an interesting story and one he'd not told me before.

Dad says there was also a chap called Hicks used to sit with them. Any ideas?

That game also marked the debut of goalkeeper Phil Joslin who would later leave Plainmoor to join Cardiff.
