Louis Is indeed a decent young man and what we don't want Or need, Is to start going down the anti-dot net route again. I worked hard to steer the forum away from that at the start and will not allow It to start up again. Merse you know my simple rules on this, please respect them

I've not made a "personal attack", I've made a critical observation. A personal attack is when one attacks a person for their views, ethics or character................where have I done that? My observation was based on my opinion of what happened to a fans' site that was perfectly OK until it was decided to move away from the tried and tested formula - which was relevant to the debate on this thread. "Personal attack"? That's a ridiculous assertion!

Two things, no three -
1. We have an 'introductions' section? I'm not that kind of bo you know.
2. You can stay permanently logged in? Must pay more attention. A good idea for one such as me who can never remember a password and neither does my works computer.
3. Sounded personal to me Merse I'm afraid. I think you must remember that we cannot see faces on here and comments can be mis-construed and you also have a thicker skin than most. I have no problem with people being forthright but when it comes across as disparaging than it has to be challenged.
OK 4 -
Balance in my mind is top. I don't mind a little frivolity and inanity in my life.
Crowd prediction : 2060! (Damn, too late! How did I do?)

The forum Is now close to getting 200 members, that Is great news. I only worry as when we got our first 100, Merse started a thread On it and that thread ended up getting a bit out Of hand. Wonder If he will start a thread when we get the 200. I will be keeping my head down, thats for sure. ;D

Most people have limited time available, so can put up with reading 5 or 10 "nothing posts" to get to a thought-provoking one, but will not bother to plough through 50 or 100 to get there. How many people have given up on dotnet, knowing that they will miss some good posts but unprepared to wade through all the crap that envelops them? This site consistently has two or three really good posts a day. Please let's not make those posts difficult to find by flooding the site with nothingness. That is it in a nutshell Jon. The day Merv let a kid who was already running a juvenile site that catered for those with a thirty second attention span get his hands on .net was like letting the Titanic carry on with the bung taken out of the ballast tanks. Then "the kid" allowed a Svengali figure to exert his "control freak" character over procedings and it went downhill faster than the Jamaicans in "Cool Runnings" Now "Svengali" has got bored and is hardly ever on there, so where does that leave "the Kid"? "Home Alone" I guess. Now the former quality site has become the juvenile one and a new quality site has evolved.......................let's not see the same mistakes repeated! Dave, once again there is nothing wrong with this site as it is, you're doing a great job - if it ain't broke, don't look to fix it!The forum has received an email in reference to the post made by Merse, below is the entire contents Of the email REMOVE WHAT MERSE POSTED, FROM THE KID Firstly let me say that I have made It clear that we would prefer not to have .net talked about on the forum and I do think the use Of the word KID, was not maybe what should have been used by Merse. That said, anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm a very fair man who you can always talk to and will always try to work things out with anyone. I do think the email could have been written in a polite way and then maybe I would have had a word with Merse. I have replied to the email and will wait for any reply, I have talked with Jim who shares my view that the post contains nothing that we think we need to remove, I would add that in my reply to Merse on this thread,I defended the kid and stated he was a decent young man. therefore I feel that I have taken the action I need to take, Merse Is entitled to his view the same as everyone else, but I will not give my own views on .net

As I posted in reply to Jon's accusation of making a "personal attack" I did nothing of the sort and my post was intended as a critical observation of events, and was following up on a point made by a previous poster re .net. If Louis Higgins wants to take issue with me, let him contact me directly and stop assuming he can censor this site. There is nothing I have posted that is libelous, untrue or abusive. The fact that he finds it unpleasant is neither here nor there. Thank you and well done Dave for a sensible response.

Hey dave, it's just like the first week in june again isn't it For what it's worth I think Merse makes a fair point here, Personally (and it is only my personal thoughts) I think there was nothing in the posting that was wrong and for another site to ask for it to be removed really is a bit daft. Mind you, just goes to show big Little brother is watching! What's wrong guys? Scared you're missing something?

Jamie, If I'm honest I would have to say I agree with every word Merse wrote, the only thing I would have preferred was for him to have not used the word kid, but after having a second email, written like the first one. I think I will call him the kid as well

Being a 'non-poster' myself, i'm not being over critical of the forum but some regular posters can be quite aloof and frankly a bit up their own arses (as on dotnet too I might add). Maybe self important is the word.
Also, anyone reading this thread would have no illusions to the underlying resentment that seems to exist for dotnet from some members. No matter how much they try and pretend otherwise. Why else does it keep being mentioned by the same posters?
People really should just grow up and get over it. The forum works well without the need to snipe and it really is a negative aspect to this site.
Just a thought, but has anyone considered Louis' email could in fact be tongue in cheek? That's how I read it....
Anyway, back on topic. Plenty of people such as myself simply don't have the time to compose lengthy prose about the latest game and are just looking for other's views and opinions. It's reassuring to know there are other supporters with the same views as yourself and adding 'me too!!' wouldn't enhance the content of the threads.
Finally, keep up the good work, but there really is no need to have a 'we're better than them' attitude.

Steve thanks for your views, there are times when I wish a thread could be locked, so as to let It die, but that Is not the policy Of this forum, so I simply can't.
I would suggest that the posters you refer to, do not believe they are suffering any form Of underlying resentment. They each have their own reasons and views about another forum.
While I can understand how you feel that such remarks On this forum, toward another many be considered a negative aspect to this site, I will say this.
The big difference Is that you can have your views on here, even If I would prefer that certain subjects were not really discussed. Please try starting a thread anywhere else about The Torquay Fans Forum and see what happens.
Forums will always be full Of some who may have to much to say, some who will wind you up and some who will drive you mad, while some will just make you laugh. We need to except we are all different, with different view points and each and everyone has the right to express their own views.
The forum Is not interested In being the best Or the worst forum, Its only aim Is to be the best forum that It can be and to that end I work hard to try and make sure that happens.

Dave.
I agree with your principles of free speech and commend your stance that forum members should be allowed to express their views no matter what, but I am just stating that when posts start getting personal, then you should make sure that the post is in direct response to another post. A derogatory remark about Louis (which calling him a kid is!) is NOT a valid comment about dotnet or it's content. Personally it justifies my opinion that some posters have an agenda and continue to do so.
Lets please just keep to the Torquay United discussion, rather than slating individuals.
Steve
By the way, i've never met Louis or anyone else on dotnet, so please don't think I have an agenda myself.

Read the thread through from the beginning Steve and you'll see that I originally responded to the dramatic number of postings that day, and then responded to Harrogategull's overview of "the other site" and Jon's opinion that too much dross diluted the quality that this site is renowned for; by outlining the recent history of that site................everyone has their characteristics Steve, you have yours and I have mine - how boring it would be if we all shared the same ones.

I still get called a kid sometimes and I am 36, going grey, losing hair in front, tubby and tire easily - I don't find it at all derogatory. If he'd said stupid kid or something else, then maybe.
