What that on the runner beans btw? Are they still frozen, or is that salt Probably the light - don't have salt added to my grub! I hadn't eaten anything since a cheese sandwich in...... at lunchtime (and an early lunch it was).

Fair dos. Nothing wrong with doing justice to a tasty pie. Just that the picture accompanying your report is a bit like opening the newspaper and seeing a report of one of our midweek games next to a picture of Plainmoor after they've turned the floodlights off

While you guys were merrily making your way up to the match from the four corners of the globe, I entertained the following Steak & Ale Pie at the Avon Inn - Avonwick: A pleasant pie with tender meat you could find under the huge pie crust. Little more seasoning and the gravy could have done with being a tad thicker. How to rate this one, mmm? Not as good as the Linny but far better than the Weatherspoons. Not as tasty as the mini Barn Owl Pie but a larger portion. Quality over size? 6.5 (out of 10)

Got to say, Chelston, that pie looks a good deal easier on the eye than Dr Pepper and mushy peas this sunny Sunday morning! The best thing about this thread however is not the numerous pies that have been discussed, eaten and dissected. It's the scores of people who have wondered (and may still be wondering) what on earth people are up to in pubs, cafes and football grounds up and down the land with their phone cameras hovering over their pies. What do you tell Mrs Chelston for example?

Technically, that is not a pie. It is a plate of stew with a pie crust slapped on top. Totally unacceptable I am afraid.

The whole dish has a mass produced, cooked from frozen look about it sadly. Now this is a steak n ale pie experience......yours is a Harrold/McGleish partnership - mine is more your Howe/Atieno Accompanied by lashings of mashed potato and copious amounts of thick gravy.

Agreed not the best but I believe cooked fresh. Agree that potatoes and veg are best. Yours looks like a Barn Owl Pie?

A pie is a pie - meat based with a pastry topping. With Chelstongull on this. There's no pastry involved at all in a Shepherd's or Fish Pie, but those are still pies (even if those are mince/fish stew with potato on top). I do think it's a little bit cheeky how the pastry topping wheeze seems to be catching on though. It's passable if you get a nice bit of pastry, but the path to Pie Greatness will never be lined with lid-only pastry pies.

This is one from a pub in kent.
