I was in william hills today and decided to see what price Torquay are to win the conference.
We are 7/1 second favs behind Stevenge 11/2.
Surely Torquay at that price represents value. Based upon last season, we are stronger and more importantly we are not the "big team" next season. All the conference teams will do to Wrexham/Mansfield what they tried to do to us. Hopefully we may slip under the radar.
Another factor from last season is that we ended up the only team relegated so that placed more emphasis on other teams trying to get a result.
I know this to be true based upon what the Salisbury players told me, they looked so forward to playing us, they we so up for the game, hopefuly next season the focus will be on other relegated teams.
So in the words of the bookies "get on"

I agree Sean. 7/1 seems a great bet to place particularly at each way. Blue Square and 888 are offering the same odds for a top 4 place @ 1/4 of the odds. All the other on-line bookies only offer first 3.

You would have thought Wrexham would have been favorites and I do think Burton will be pushing hard. Why does every club seem to think were moneys bags all of a sudden? not you fault is it Sean ;D ;D

Funny enough, although I like a bet I rarely bet on football; must be some hidden away superstition that I'll put the mockers on my team I guess. If you want a Derby tip take the 8/1 on offer for no 7 Doctor Fremantle - trainer Sir Michael Stoute knows a thing or two about training Derby winners (he's done it four times) any horse sired by Saddlers Wells has to be respected for this classic and his running record is 221-21. Get on!

Good point Dave, the money bags comments have come from certain other conference managers trying to unsettle certain player targets. I can personally tell you Paul Buckle is frustrated with this as it can cause targets or agents to up their price. The truth is we dont have the money that is banded around, The club has been to the brink and back. It will be a slow process, but this board wil work within its means whilst giving Paul all the support he needs.

Yes it sure works against us, Paul does say he is very happy with the backing the board has given him, but agents are only interested in one thing. If you look at our turnover(gates etc) compared to many of the other clubs, I suppose, we must look well off. We should be able to spend more on the player budget, than many others clubs and I'm sure the agents use this to push for more money.

OK then, here's the MerseTips for the Epsom Downs meeting on Derby day, and my reasoning for selecting them...................... 1.40 1m 2f: no 10 Tajweed - record this season 2,1,1 but not a great draw(10) for this ten furlong left handed opener. However at an expected 6/1 he'll give a value for money punt and under the talented Richard Hills I'd give him every chance at upsetting the expected favourite, Conduit 2.10 6 f: no 9 Smokey Storm - can't see past the favourite for this top of the hill sprint round Tattenham Corner. A lan Munroe is an experienced jockey who'll make it's dream draw (3) count and leave the field trailing. Do't expect better than 7/4 though. 2.40 no 5 Enforce - Jockey William Buick is a brilliant young prospect who I see becoming the leading rider in the next few years and I think he'll take this 12/1 shot all the way today. 3.15 5f - the world's fastest five furlong race and I'm sticking with no 13 Holbeck Ghyll who I backed last yearto better his fourth place then. But look outfor Helen chamberlain's no 14 Merlin's Dancer to take advantage of best draw (19) for an each way at 16/1

Not if you only spend what you can afford Jim. The excitement of seeing your horse just lose out in a close finish, beats watching a race with nothing selected. I only bet what I can afford, and just view it as an extension of my admission money...............after all, we don't view paying to watch sport a "mugs game" do we? It only becomes that if you are addicted to chasing your losses on credit - now that is a mug's game! Anyway, two out of seven plus a decent priced each way should be enough to keep you ahead of the bookies;unless one's stakes were too high on the losing bets. I think my Derby selection ran out of petrol in the last furlong, which is a bit of a gutter as he's owned by a Middle Eastern oil rich prince!
