Just watched a great piece of television. Victoria Wood put together a reconstruction of the creation of Eric Morecambe (Bartholomew) and Ernie Wise (Wiseman).
I thoroughly enjoyed the fascinating account of how they got together and rose to fame. An outstanding comedy partnership of its time which still makes people laugh today

bloody brilliant,ant and dec are the new morecombe and wise they reckon,there is no new team,they were one offs,make ant and dec look very unfunny.I used to work with ernie wises sister she was an occupational therapist who doubled up as ernies estate agent,very nice lady the image of ernie even had the short fat hairy legs.The classic breakfast scene to music was brilliant,ranks along side the four candles by corbett and barker as top comedy classics

What a wonderful and authentic journey down memory lane that was.
Incredible performance from the guy who played Eric Morcombe he must have studied every single characteristic. Surely an award winning performance.
Though t Vic was very good also.

If you assume, like football, that you should be judged on your results, here are a few ‘results’ (stats) for you to contemplate about your new favourite bands; Take That: 11 number 1 singles, 6 number 1 albums, Brit award for best single in 1993/1994/1996/2007/2008. Westlife: Only British act in history to have their first 7 singles to go to number 1. They have 14 number 1 singles, which is only beaten by Elvis & the Beatles. Both were great live, especially the Take That Circus concert at Wembley. 2 great days out at Wembley within a very short period of time, what more can you ask for. The stats don’t lie, 2 of the most successful bands in British music history, so to use that as a comparison to Ant & Dec you must think very highly of them. So what awards have they won............. They did win the Nickelodeon UK Kids choice award for ‘favourite funny person’, so guessing they aren’t quite up there with the legends like Morecambe & Wise, Two Ronnies, Tommy Cooper etc. Right off to listen to my compilation of Take That & Westlife Greatest Hits, which I doubt I will have time to finish before I need to leave for the ground.  |

Will people be listening to the likes of Take That in 2025? And I don't mean middle aged folk in search of nostalgia, but young bands and artists. The likes of the Beatles, Neil Young and the Clash will always inspire - as will smaller, less 'successful' artists who never fitted the corporate instant-'likeability' category filled by the Take Thats and Westlifes of this world. I can see the appeal of Morecambe and Wise, but not a patch on Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, one of the greatest comic double acts of all time imo. |
