Here's the programme from the 1971 Torbay Pioneer League cup final played at Plainmoor. As Merse indicated in another thread, ex-Torquay United player Dennis Penford was a prime mover in the creation of the league. Indeed the name of the cup is significant: Torquay United ex-Professionals Cup. The programme notes point to this being the second season of the competition. In his welcome Allan Brown, then TUFC manager, writes about Trevor Francis as a "West Country boy, not yet seventeen, who has already become a great favourite across the land." He concludes by saying "there could be another Trevor Francis here tonight." Well, a certain Colin Lee was there as you'll see from the Torre Trojans line-up and picture. Those with Torquay BGS connections will also notice the presence of Chris Penford. Another - who gets his name in the Herald Express almost as frequently as Colin Lee - is Les Burnett, chair of the Torbay Development Agency. One other member of the Torre Trojans squad is regular home and away TUFC supporter but I'll protect his identity. As a Torquinian I don't know so much about the Kingsteignton team but I see the Breslan dynasty was represented.

Great to see this programme bartondowns and more so as we see Colin Lee as a young player, setting out On his football journey. I wonder If Colin has the programme and can remember the game, might drop him a line and find out.
