It's all well and good for those looking on - with the BSP only a few years away - but just what are the clubs ambitions? www.cornishsoccer.info/Page%203.htmlMassey has a strong case when it comes to progression; "for all those great supporters who follow the club home and away is, the very people who have taken the club to the fantastic heights it has now reached, will be the very people that will hold it back from going on to reach even greater heights to come. I believe Buckland Athletics’ template, and there is nothing wrong in this at all, is for an ambitious Clubhouse, but not necessarily for an ambitious Football Team." Mistakes on Both Sides!

Thanks for this, Keyberry. Interesting how Jon speculated about a possible clash of cultures when we were discussing Steve Massey's departure. The whole business of to attempt to climb the leagues - or not - is one that divides many clubs.
The other part of Massey's mutterings is, well, half-revealing. Something to do, I suspect, with forming another club in Truro that will wear City's old red-and-black kit. You can't please all the people....
Muted response from me tonight. An enjoyable evening at Adams Park last night - the senses were stimulated by an excellent performance together with the strongest cup of Bovril I've ever tasted - sandwiched between walking stretches of the Thames path yesterday and today. You should be relieved I'm not posting pictures and minutiae about Penn and Tylers Green FC where I popped in this morning. Who? So it's an early night before a busy day in Cornwall tomorrow.
Oh no it’s not – the cricket!

The guy on the gate is a mate of mine, Nick Hancock (not from the tv) and we went to many Torquay games over the years but he then fell out with the club how they were being run and started watching more local footie. He has seen most grounds in the south west but is there for all Bucks home games.

He was doing his best to get me along for the Larkhall game. I did explain I live in Sheffield and a return to South Devon so quickly was entirely conditional on there being something at stake against Wycombe. It didn't make much difference and he was at pains to, once more, remind me it would be free entry before 2pm. Tell him I'll be back watching Buckland on occasions next season.

I see Buckland lost 4-1 to Bodmin in the FA Vase yesterday. Unfortunately they still haven't progressed sufficiently far in this national competition to play any side much beyond the confines of the south west. That's when it gets interesting.
Bodmin join St Austell in the last thirty-two. AlpineJoe will be pleased. Perhaps this will divert his attention for a while.

Saw that result and was surprised that Buckland received what seems to be a comprehensive stuffing, as only a couple of weeks ago my home town club Ivybridge Town went over the Tamar bridge to Priory Park and smashed Bodmin 4-1. A 1-0 win at Cullompton yesterday has restored Ivybridge to the top of the table, and next up next Saturday at Erme Park are St Blazey. More Cornish lambs to the slaughter, an event that I will be an eye witness to!!

This season's FA Cup and FA Vase results add credence to this. There's probably a case for upgrading the Peninsula's Premier to Step 5 alongside the Western Premier. Same again with the lower sections being reclassified as Step 6. Trouble is it hardly makes any difference when it comes to clubs progressing. If few Peninsula clubs want to step up to the Western, you wouldn't imagine many would be keen to progress directly to the Southern. But, who knows, one or two might be. Ivybridge's ground - save for the pylons - is very pretty. I was there last Sunday prior to walking up what I now know as Stefano's Beacon. Here are a few snaps:

Buckland didn't play well enough apparently and would have had ANOTHER home draw. Phoenix Sports from London.

Buckland seem to be storming up the Western League with a vengeance.
Remarkably, they are yet to draw a league game. Won 14 lost 8 leaves them just six point off top spot with two games in hand.
Does anyone know if there are any thoughts of applying for promotion to the Southern League?

Buckland weren't on the list of promotion applicants that was published a few weeks back. Brislington, Bristol Manor Farm, Melksham and Slimbridge are the Western League clubs seeking to step up this year.

I know that it is a target but more and more travelling in that maybe too much for them.

Buckland Athletic chairman Roy Holmes is quoted in this week's Herald Express as saying the state of the pitch is holding the club back from progressing up the leagues. Apparently it would cost £40,000 to put it right. It's certainly looked in sorry shape when I've been to games at Buckland this season.
The paper also reveals that Teignmouth have applied for promotion to the Peninsula premier. They know there are ground issues and sound more optimistic about progress in another year or so. Full list of applicants:
Helston Athletic West Division
Liskeard Athletic West Division
St Dennis West Division
Sticker West Division
Tavistock East Division
Teignmouth East Division
At the lower level the following clubs have applied to step up from the district leagues:
Edgcumbe East Cornwall Premier League
Plymouth Marjons Plymouth & West Devon League
Mullion Cornwall Combination League
Tiverton Town Reserves Devon & Exeter League
Torridgeside North Devon League
Wendron United Cornwall Combination League
Curiously there's also been an application from Plymouth Argyle.

A fine 2-0 win for Buckland Athletic tonight against Willand Rovers in front of a crowd of 216. A goal in each half; well-contested; may have been different had Willand converted a first-half penalty.
It's big ask to expect Buckland to win the league but a win against Odd Down at home on Bank Holiday Monday will represent a significant step towards clinching the runners-up position. Together with Dawlish's second place of a few seasons ago this would represent the best effort by a South Devon team for a very long time.
Good to see TUST's email to members helping publicise Monday's game at Buckland. Is it just me, but is there scope for stronger links between Torquay United and other local football clubs?
Buckland Athletic cordially invite all supporters of live football to their home game against Old Down (Bath) on Monday 6th April... kickoff 3:00pm.
Adults - £5:00 Concessions - £3.50

Still in second place after thrashing shepton mallet 5-0. An outside chance of winning the league but need to win all their games and Melksham to drop points. Still amazingly haven't drawn a league game yet !! 21 wins, 10 defeats.
