Off topic Dave, but I assume you took the A386 from Oke to Torrington? I lived in the pub in the small village of Meeth in my early years and grew up just down the road in Hatherleigh. Not surprised there was a smash. It's one of those roads that opens up and lets you get to around 70 then springs a hairpin turn on you! I don't know why I'm telling you this, maybe I'm a bit homesick.

That was the road, I would normally go from Okehampton to Holsworthy, via Halwall Junction, but was In a hurry and I had nothing to deliver to my calls In Holsworthy and they had not asked for a collection, so took that road to head for Bideford from Okehampton. The smash was way past about the third village, so had to come all the back to the roundabout(I think there Is a slaughter house or market near the roundabout and head toward Holsworthy.
I turned Of by a pub that has been rebuilt a little while ago as it had burned down to the ground,This roads goes past the big private school (can't remember the name) and comes out at Stibbs Cross and then I drove across the crossroads and on to Bideford that way.

That's where I grew up. ;D I turned off by a pub that has been rebuilt a little while ago as it had burned down to the ground,This roads goes past the big private school (can't remember the name) The pub you speak of is The Bickford Arms in Brandis Corner. It's owned by my uncle (unrelated, friend-of-family type uncle). It burned down after a horrible accident and they've rebuilt it. It looks great now, but doesn't have that historical pub charm anymore. The private school you speak of was probably Shebbear College. I went to Okehampton College and they were our arch rivals in the school sporting world!

Shebbear College. yes that Is the one, looks like you have to have money to send your kids there. Sure they must board as well, nice road to drive along, I love the long winding bridge, close to the house with the water wheel, will stop now as I'm sure I'm making you home sick ;D

Aah, the old country *sniff* I was home recently and I'm down soon for Hatherleigh Carnival. Two weekends in as many months is more than enough for me, cheers Dave! I used to play cricket with a bunch of lads from Shebbear. Unbelievably snobby little [insert insult of your choice here].
